Message: "We need permission to remove old files and finish your update" appears on your Norton app for Mac

This message appears when the latest version of your Norton app detects an old Norton app that is pending deletion and needs your permission to be removed from your Mac.

To resolve this issue, you must remove the old Norton app (denoted by _REMOVE) from your Mac and then restart your Mac. Follow the below steps to uninstall the old Norton app (denoted by _REMOVE).

  1. On your Mac, click the Finder icon in the dock, then click Applications in the left pane under the Favorites section.
  2. Scroll down and find the old Norton application icon with any of the app names listed below:

    • Norton 360_REMOVE

    • Norton AntiVirus_REMOVE

    • Norton Security_REMOVE

    • Norton Internet Security_REMOVE

  3. Right-click the old Norton application icon on your Mac and click Move to Trash or Move to Bin.

  4. Click Continue to allow your old Norton app to remove the old system extensions from your Mac.

  5. When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password, then click OK.

  6. Restart your Mac.
