Setting up Norton Scam Protection and Scam Protection Pro features

You can set up the following Scam Protection features using your Norton device security app. For more information about Scam Protection or Scam Protection Pro and its features, refer to the following article: Features of Norton Scam Protection and Scam Protection Pro

Not all features are available in all plans, including plans purchased from third parties (such as your internet or mobile service provider).

Windows or Mac

  1. Open the Norton device security app.

  2. On the main screen, click Scam Protection or Scam Protection Pro.

  3. On the Scam Protection screen, you can set up or access the following features:

    Norton Genie AI-powered assistant1,2

    The Norton Genie AI-powered assistant in your Norton device security app can help you identify deepfake scams on YouTube videos, which may lead to financial fraud, identity theft, and misinformation.

    Deepfake Protection in Norton Genie AI-powered Assistant is currently available only on YouTube videos in English. It is not supported on iOS devices. For detailed information about Norton Genie AI-powered assistant, refer to the following article: Using Norton Genie AI-powered assistant to detect deepfakes.

    Safe Web1,2

    1. Next to Safe Web, click Set up or the > icon to configure the feature. You can view the status of Safe Web reports on other devices where you have enabled the Safe Web feature.

      If you want to add an additional device, click Add device, and scan the QR code from your mobile device that has Norton 360 installed.

    2. If you want to configure the Safe Web settings on your current device, click This device, and configure the following settings:

      • Overview: This tab lets you turn off or turn on the Safe Web feature and provides you with detailed information about the detections.

      • Settings: This tab lets you configure the Safe Web settings for your device. For detailed information about Safe Web settings, refer to the following article: Configure Safe Web settings.

      • Blocked websites: This tab lets you block access to specific websites that you think are malicious.

      • Exclusions: If you know that a website is safe, this tab lets you add it as an exception so that Safe Web does not scan it.

    Safe Web is now set up on your device to help protect you from scams when shopping or browsing online.

    Deepfake Protection1,2

    The Deepfake Protection feature combines the AI technology of Norton with the power of Windows AI PC to automatically detect deepfakes and identify scams in videos. It runs on your device to analyze and detect synthetic voices while you watch a video or listen to audio, and notifies you accordingly.

    Automatic Deepfake Protection works only on YouTube, Facebook, X, and TikTok for videos in English, manual scan can be used on other platforms. It requires a Windows Copilot+ PC with a compatible Qualcomm or Intel processor and a supported browser. It is not supported on Mac devices.     Safe SMS1,2

    1. Next to Safe SMS, click Set up or the > icon to configure the feature. You can view the status of the Safe SMS reports on other devices where you have enabled the Safe SMS feature.

    2. If you want to add an additional device, click Add device, and scan the QR code from your mobile device that has Norton 360 installed.

    Safe SMS is now set up on your device to detect scams in text messages.

    Safe SMS is available only on Android and iOS mobile devices. It is not available on Windows or Mac.

    Private Browser1,2

    1. In the Norton Private Browser tile, click Install.

    2. Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the installation to finish.

    Norton Private Browser is now installed on your device to help block phishing scams and keep annoying ads away

    Safe Call2

    1. Next to Safe Call, click Set up or the > icon to configure the feature. You can view the status of the Safe Call reports on other devices where you have enabled the Safe Call feature.

    2. If you want to add an additional device, click Add device, and scan the QR code from your mobile device that has Norton 360 installed.

    Safe Call is now set up on your device to block scam and spam calls.

    Safe Email2

    1. Next to Safe Email, click Set up.

    2. Click the Overview tab and click Add email account.

    3. Enter your email address and click Continue.

    4. Click Sign in to sign into your email account and allow your Norton 360 app to scan and flag emails.

    5. In the confirmation message, enable the Norton 360 permissions checkbox and click Got it.

      Safe Email only scans new emails that have been received after connecting your email account to Safe Email.

    Safe Email is now set up to help protect your email inbox against suspicious emails. Safe Email allows you to connect up to five online email accounts.

Android

  1. Open the Norton device security app.

  2. On the main screen, tap Genie Scam Protection.

  3. In the Genie Scam Protection screen, you can set up the following features:

    Norton Genie AI-powered assistant1,2

    The Norton Genie AI-powered assistant in your Norton device security app can help you identify deepfake scams on YouTube videos, which may lead to financial fraud, identity theft, and misinformation.

    Safe Web1,2

    1. Next to Safe Web, tap Set up > Start setup > Continue.

    2. In Accessibility alert notification, tap OK.

    3. In the Accessibility screen, tap Downloaded apps, and tap Norton 360 Service.

    4. Tap the slider next to Norton 360 Service to turn the service on (blue) and tap Allow.

    5. In the Safe Web Setup screen and tap Open settings.

    6. In the Display over other apps screen, scroll down and tap Norton 360.

    7. Tap the slider next to Display over other apps to turn the service on (blue).

    8. In the Safe Web Setup screen, tap Continue and tap Allow.

    Safe Web is now set up on your device to help protect you from scams when shopping or browsing online.

    Safe SMS1,2

    1. Next to Safe SMS, tap Set up > Start setup > Continue.

    2. In the alert notification, tap Allow, and tap Continue.

    3. In the alert notification, tap Allow to allow Norton 360 to access your contacts.

    Safe SMS is now set up on your device to detect scams in text messages.

    Private Browser1,2

    1. In the Norton Private Browser tile, tap Install Now.

    2. On the Google Play Store screen, tap Install.

    3. When the installation finishes, tap Open.

    Norton Private Browser is now installed on your device to help block phishing scams and keep annoying ads away

    Safe Call2

    1. Next to Safe Call, tap Set up > Start setup > Continue.

    2. In the alert notification, tap Allow, and tap Continue.

    3. In the alert notification, tap Allow to allow Norton 360 to access your phone call logs.

    4. In the Safe Call Setup screen, tap Continue, and select Norton 360 to set Norton 360 as your default caller ID and spam app.

    5. Tap Set as default.

    Safe Call is now set up on your device to block scam and spam calls.

    Safe Email2

    1. Next to Safe Email, tap Set up > Start setup.

    2. Type in the email ID that you want the Norton 360 app to scan and flag safe and suspicious emails.

    3. Tap Add Mailbox to add more emails.

    Safe Email is now set up to help protect your email inbox against suspicious emails.

    Safe Email only scans new emails that have been received after connecting your email account to Safe Email. Safe Email allows you to connect up to five online email accounts.

    Scam Restoration & Reimbursement3

    1. In the Quick launch section, tap Scam Support.

    2. Tap Verify a scam to get expert help to check if something is a scam. Your options are:

      • Ask Genie: You can type or copy and paste the text message or website you want to be checked into Norton Genie. You can also use the Add image option to upload an image from your device to be checked into Norton Genie.

      • Call Agent: You can speak with a live Scam Support Agent to describe the potential scam you have encountered.

    3. If you want to use Genie Scam Protection Pro’s scam restoration service, tap Get Help, and tap Get started on recovery.

    4. Tap Start my claim to file a claim for reimbursement.

    Scam reimbursement is initiated as part of your Genie Scam Protection Pro’s scam restoration service. This service handles the complex process of recovering lost money, so you don’t have to, and it is backed by up to $10,000 in coverage4.

iOS

  1. Open the Norton device security app.

  2. On the main screen, tap Scam Protection.

  3. In the Scam Protection screen, you can set up the following features:

    1. Tap Safe SMS > Start setup > Next > Open settings.

    2. Scroll down to the Unknown Senders section.

    3. Next to Screen Unknown Senders, tap the slider so that it turns green (On) if it is disabled.

    4. Next to Filter Spam, tap the slider so that it turns green (On) if it is disabled.

    5. Tap Text Message Filter, select Norton 360 in the list, then tap Use to confirm.

    6. Navigate back to the Norton 360 app and tap Menu > Safe SMS > Done.

    7. Tap Yes to confirm and complete setting up the Safe SMS feature on your device.

    8. Tap Next.

    Safe SMS is now set up on your device to detect scams in text messages.

    Private Browser1,2

    1. In the Norton Private Browser tile, tap Install Now.

    2. On the Apple App Store screen, tap Get or the download icon.

    3. When the installation finishes, tap Open.

    Norton Private Browser is now installed on your device to help block phishing scams and keep annoying ads away

    Safe Call2

    1. Next to Safe Call, tap Set up > Get started > Open Settings.

    2. In the Call Blocking & Identification screen, tap all the sliders next to Norton 360 to turn the feature on (green).

    3. Tap Edit in the top-right corner of the Call Blocking & Identification screen and move the Norton 360 items to the top of the list.

    Safe Call is now set up on your device to block scam and junk calls.

    Safe Email2

    1. Tap Safe Email > Start setup > Add mailbox.

    2. Type in the email ID that you want the Norton 360 app to scan and flag safe and suspicious emails.

    Safe Email is now set up to help protect your email inbox against suspicious emails.

    Safe Email only scans new emails that have been received after connecting your email account to Safe Email. Safe Email allows you to connect up to five online email accounts.

Norton Account

To set up the features, sign in to your Norton account on the Scam Protection or Scam Protection Pro tile, click Go to Scam Protection.

Safe SMS1,2

  1. To set up Safe SMS, click View Details.

  2. Click Get Started and scan the QR code on the mobile you want to use.

  3. Install the Norton mobile app and follow the on-screen instructions.

  4. If the Norton mobile app is already installed, click Already setup, and scan the QR code on the mobile you want to use.

    When scanning the QR code on your mobile device, ensure that you use the same Norton account credentials.

Safe SMS is now set up on your device to detect scams in text messages.

Private Browser1,2

To set up Private Browser, read Download and install Norton Private Browser.

Scam Support3

  1. To set up Scam Support, click View Details.

  2. Based on your requirement, choose one of the following:

    • If you want to get instant advice from Norton Genie AI-powered assistant, or if you want to connect with our experts for guidance, then click Verify a scam.

      Recommended - Click Ask Genie and follow the instructions.

    • If you have encountered a scam and want to raise a claim, click Get Help > Get started on recovery > Start my claim and follow the on-screen instructions, and click Done.

Scam reimbursement is initiated as part of your Scam Protection Pro’s scam restoration service. This service handles the complex process of recovering lost money, so you don’t have to, and it is backed by up to $10,000 in coverage4.

Safe Web1,2

  1. To set up Safe Web, click View Details.

  2. Click Get Started.

  3. Depending on your device, follow the instructions:

    • Click Download Norton on the device you want to use.

    • Scan the QR code on the device you want to use.

  4. Install the Norton device security app and follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. If the Norton app is already installed, click Already setup, and scan the QR code on the device you want to use.

When scanning the QR code on your device, ensure that you use the same Norton account credentials.

Safe Web is now set up on your device to help protect you from scams when shopping or browsing online.

Safe Email2

  1. To set up Safe Email, click Add Email > Add Email Account.

  2. Type in the email ID that you want the Norton 360 app to scan and flag safe and suspicious emails, and click Continue.

  3. Sign in to your email account and allow your Norton 360 app to scan and flag emails.
