Resolve errors related to missing root certificates

Applicable for: Windows

Norton has detected an issue that interrupts your Norton product installation.

It could be due to one of the following reasons:

  • Auto-update of root certificates is turned off in your Windows device.

  • Download failure of the root certificate.

To resolve this issue, follow the below instructions.

Change the registry value for DisableRootAutoUpdate

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    regedit
  3. Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot\DisableRootAutoUpdate

  4. Change the value from 1 to 0.

  5. Exit the registry editor.

  6. Open the Norton installer program and wait for the installation to complete.

If you want to make this change for wider deployment using the group policy, the Group Policy Object for this setting is at: Computer ConfigurationsAdministrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication settings > Turn off Automatic Root Certificates Update. Change Turn off Automatic Root Certificates Update from Enabled to Disabled.

If issue still persists, you must manually install the root certificate.

Manually install the root certificate

  1. Download the root certificate.

  2. Double-click the file that you downloaded.

  3. If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the root certificate installation.

After the root certificate installation is complete, it gets listed along with the other trusted root certificates.

  5. Open the Norton installer program and wait for the installation to complete.
