Stay secure with Norton without sacrificing speed when gaming

Whether you are competitive gamer or a casual player, you understand the importance of protecting yourself when you are gaming or streaming online. You know that hackers routinely target home networks and online accounts of gamers and streamers alike. But you don't want to sacrifice PC performance. A finely tuned PC, high speed Internet connection, and an optimized home network are essential to make the most of your gaming PC setup.

That's why more and more gamers prefer to protect themselves with Norton Security. In addition to best-in-class Internet security and Cyber Defense, Norton Security also offers the performance management tools which can be used to optimize your PC's performance.

We designed Norton with gamers in mind. We do not want to interrupt you while you play your favorite game whether it is DOTA2, or League of Legends, or World of WarCraft.

How do I configure Norton for gaming?

We've provided features to suspend alerts and background tasks while you play games or stream. These features make sure that Norton has minimal affect on the PC performance.

Silent Mode & Full Screen Detection

Quiet Mode

When you perform important tasks, watch movies, or play games in full-screen mode, you can configure Norton to stop sending alert messages and suspend background tasks that slow performance. Full Screen Detection helps you turn on Silent Mode automatically when Norton detects a full-screen application.

Configure Norton to suspend alerts and background tasks

  • Start Norton.

  • In the Norton window, click Settings.

  • In the Settings window, click Administrative Settings.

  • Under Silent Mode Settings, in the Silent Mode row, turn on Silent Mode.

  • Click Apply, then select the amount of time that you want to stop notifications and background tasks.

  • Under Silent Mode Settings, in the Full Screen Detection row, move the switch to On to suppress Norton alerts and background tasks whenever you use full-screen applications.

Norton automatically enables Quiet Mode when you perform tasks that require higher utilization of system resources. When Quiet Mode is turned on, Norton suspends the background activities and lets the task use the maximum resources for better performance.

Add your game to User-Specified Programs in Quiet Mode

  • Start Norton.

  • In the Norton window, click Settings.

  • In the Settings window, click Administrative Settings.

  • Under Silent Mode Settings, in the User-Specified Programs row, click Configure.

  • In the Quiet Mode Programs window, click Add.

  • In the Add Program dialog box, navigate to the location of the game file that you want to add to the Quiet Mode Programs list. Select the file, and then click Open.

  • Click OK.

  5. In the Select a program dialog box, browse to the executable file of the game that you want to add.

  6. Click Open.
