Whether you are competitive gamer or a casual player, you understand the importance of protecting yourself when you are gaming or streaming online. You know that hackers routinely target home networks and online accounts of gamers and streamers alike. But you don't want to sacrifice PC performance. A finely tuned PC, high speed Internet connection, and an optimized home network are essential to make the most of your gaming PC setup.
That's why more and more gamers prefer to protect themselves with Norton. In addition to best-in-class Internet security and Cyber Defense, Norton also offers the performance management tools which can be used to optimize your PC's performance.
We designed our Norton products with gamers in mind. We do not want to interrupt you while you play your favorite game whether it is DOTA2, or League of Legends, or World of WarCraft.
We've provided features to suspend alerts and background tasks while you play games or stream. These features make sure that your Norton product has minimal affect on the PC's performance.
When you perform important tasks, watch movies, or play games in full-screen mode, you can configure your Norton product to stop sending alert messages and suspend background tasks that slow performance. Full Screen Detection helps you turn on Silent Mode automatically when Norton detects a full-screen application.
Configure Norton to suspend alerts and background tasks
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Settings.
In the Settings window, click the General tab.
Under Notification settings, click Edit Apps > Add Application > Add.
Navigate and select your gaming or streaming app for which you want to suppress Norton alerts and background tasks whenever you open the app in full screen.
Click Done.
Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open the Task Manager.
In the Windows Task Manager window, on the Processes tab, under Image Name or Name, locate the Norton process.
The Norton process name may vary depending on your Norton product and version of Windows.

Smart Firewall Program Control lets you control how the programs that are on your computer access the Internet. We recommend that you change the access of your games to Allow in Program Control. If you do not see the game in the Program Control list, you may need to add it.

Navigate to Advanced Security > Network > Smart Firewall.
In the Smart Firewall window, click the Program Control tab.
Select the program that you want to change.
In the Network access drop-down list, select Allow to allow all access attempts by your gaming app.
