Cancelling your subscription contract or stop it from automatically renewing

Do you want to stop your subscription from automatically renewing? Or maybe, you want to cancel your subscription? This article provides you with more details about these options, their effects, and some best practices that you might want to consider before canceling your contract or stopping your subscription from automatically renewing.

Stopping your subscription from automatically renewing

Effects of stopping your subscription from automatically renewing

When your renewal is active, your subscription automatically renews annually or monthly, depending on your billing cycle. If you cancel your renewal:
  • Your subscription will continue through the end of your already paid subscription term, or your trial period, after which it will end and not automatically renew, and you won’t be charged.
  • At the expiration of your subscription, your contract will end. We invite you to read the effects listed under “Effects of canceling your subscription contract” section below.
  • Any benefits associated with automatically renewing subscriptions may end when you stop your subscription from automatically renewing.
For more information, see our Cancellation and Refund Policy.

How to stop your subscription from automatically renewing

You can manage and change your subscription renewal settings, but the method may vary depending on how you purchased your subscription.
Select an option that suits you the best:
  • Stop the renewal of a subscription purchased directly from Norton, LifeLock, or retail store
Most of our services are offered as automatically renewing subscriptions to help our customers avoid lapses in their service. If you want to stop your subscription from automatically renewing, see Stop your subscription from automatically renewing to change your renewal settings on your account page. You need to do so before you are due to be charged and it typically takes a few hours from your request for the change to take effect.
  • Stop the renewal of a subscription purchased in-app from Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store
If you subscribed through an in-app purchase, you can manage and change your subscription settings only from Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store. Uninstalling the Norton or LifeLock app from your device does not automatically cancel your subscription, nor does it stop your subscription from automatically renewing. You must change your subscription settings on the respective store. To know more, see Cancel the Norton plan in-app purchase from Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store.
  • Stop the renewal of a subscription purchased through partners, such as internet service providers and telecom companies
When you’re billed for your subscription through one of our partners, you need to manage that subscription renewal setting through the partner involved. Please contact the company that bills you for your Norton or LifeLock services.

Canceling your subscription contract

Effects of canceling your subscription contract:

Here is a list of what you might want to consider prior to canceling your subscription contract:
  • Your subscription contract will be terminated in accordance with our Cancellation and Refund Policy.
  • You will no longer be able to use our subscription services. For example, if you have a device security subscription, your device will no longer receive Norton protection against viruses, malware, spyware, ransomware, and other online threats.
  • You might no longer be able to retrieve your data and information stored in the Norton Cloud Backup (for more information see our License & Services Agreement).
  • Upon cancellation, you must uninstall and delete all copies of the software from your device(s).

How to cancel your subscription contract?

The cancellation method may vary depending on how you purchased your subscription. To know more about our Cancellation and Refund policy, and to check your cancellation, return, and refund eligibility, see Norton Cancellation and Refund Policy.
Select an option that suits you the best:
  • Cancel your subscription contract(s) purchased directly from Norton or LifeLock
You may cancel your subscription and request a refund according to our Cancellation and Refund policy. To learn more about your contract cancellation and refund rights, and for exceptions, visit our Cancellation and Refund Policy.
  • Cancel your subscription contract(s) purchased from a retail store
To cancel a subscription that you purchased from a retail store and obtain a refund, see Request a refund for your Norton product purchase.
  • Cancel in-app purchases from Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store
If you subscribed to a Norton plan through an in-app purchase, you can cancel or change your subscription settings only from Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store. Uninstalling the Norton app from your device does not automatically cancel your subscription. You must cancel or change your subscription settings on the respective store. To know more, see Cancel the Norton plan in-app purchase from Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store.
  • Cancel purchases made through partners, such as internet service providers and telecom companies
When you’re billed for your subscription through one of our partners, you need to cancel that subscription through the partner involved. Please contact the company that bills you for your Norton or LifeLock services.
  • Cancel trial subscription
Some of our trials, unless you cancel them before their end, automatically renew as a paid subscription. To cancel your free or trial subscription, see Stop your Norton subscription from automatically renewing to change your renewal settings on your account page.
