Norton 360 app automatically turns on TalkBack

Şunun için geçerlidir: Android

A known bug may trigger your Android device's TalkBack feature without your knowledge. When TalkBack is triggered, you would hear the device talk back when certain actions are taken such as flipping between home screen pages or creating a folder on the home screen. This bug affects all the apps that use an accessibility service. Norton 360 app also uses the accessibility service when you activate App Advisor scanning inside of Google Play.

Unfortunately Norton cannot control these issues with the TalkBack services. But we have tried to limit the number of users that may experience this problem by disabling the App Advisor for Google Play feature and Internet Security for some browsers on Samsung devices running Android 4.1 or earlier, and a few other devices.

If you experience this issue, turn off TalkBack every time you restart your device.

A system update that provides a higher version than Android 4.1.1 may address this issue, if available. Please check if your device has any system updates available or contact your device manufacturer or carrier to see if a system update is available.

Disable TalkBack feature

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack.

  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap Settings.

  3. In the TalkBack Settings screen, uncheck all the options, and then press Back.

  4. If the TalkBack service is enabled, you must turn it off.

Disable Text-To-Speech Services

  1. Go to Settings > Apps or Application manager.

  2. In the Application manager screen, swipe across the screen or select the All tab.

  3. Under the list of apps and services running on your device, scroll -down and tap Google Text-to-speech engine.

If your device manufacturer also offers a Text-to-Speech Engine, you need to disable that as well.

  4. In the App info window, to stop the text-to-speech services, tap Disable.

If the issue still persists, make sure that you have installed the latest operating system updates for your device. You may also reach out to your device manufacturer (e.g., Samsung) for more information on this bug.

Other known issues on Android devices

There are several other known bugs that may impact your Android device's accessibility services menu. You may experience these bugs when you try to activate App Advisor for Google Play, which uses accessibility services. These issues impact mostly Samsung devices, but you may experience similar issues with other device manufacturers.

Some issues that you may experience, and steps to resolve them:

Activating App Advisor for Google Play

Problem: When activating App Advisor for Google Play, the text prompt in the Accessibility menu will mention 'TalkBack' instead of 'App Advisor by Norton'.
Resolution: This is a text error from your device's OS. You are indeed activating 'App Advisor by Norton' and can proceed with the activation steps.

TalkBack gets enabled without confirmation message

Problem: Selecting 'TalkBack' when you return to the Accessibility menu after enabling 'App Advisor by Norton', enables the TalkBack service without a confirmation message. Normally, you will have to select the option in order to proceed on a confirmation message to activate TalkBack.
Resolution: If you choose to keep TalkBack active, do nothing. If you want to deactivate TalkBack, simply turn it off by navigating back to the TalkBack settings.

App Advisor by Norton shows Off even though the service is On

Problem: After enabling 'App Advisor by Norton' in the accessibility menu and you return to the accessibility menu, the toggle switch on the 'App Advisor by Norton' item will show as Off even though the service is On.
Resolution: This is a display issue from your device's OS. To confirm whether App Advisor for Google Play is indeed active, you can search for an app on Google Play and check if the app is automatically scanned. If it is not active, navigate to Settings > Accessibility Services > toggle App Advisor by Norton to On if it shows Off.

App Advisor by Norton service is automatically disabled

Problem: After enabling 'App Advisor by Norton' in the accessibility menu and you return to the accessibility menu, selecting to toggle 'TalkBack' but canceling on the confirmation dialog will disable 'App Advisor by Norton' service but the toggle switch will say that it's On. You will only notice this if you search for an app on Google Play and the app is not automatically scanned.
Resolution: Restart the 'App Advisor by Norton' service by navigating to Settings > Accessibility Services > toggle App Advisor by Norton to On if it shows Off.

Multiple services get disabled in the TalkBack settings

Problem: If you enable both 'App Advisor by Norton' and TalkBack in the accessibility menu, disabling one service will disable the other service as well. The services will be linked together and all services can only be On or Off together.
Resolution: App Advisor for Google Play cannot be active independently of the TalkBack service. Follow the steps in this article to disable TalkBack settings and TTS.

Unable to activate App Advisor by Norton service

Problem: When enabling 'App Advisor by Norton' in the accessibility menu, you receive a confirmation dialog stating that 'App Advisor by Norton' cannot be turned on alongside other active features, such as Multi-Window and Air Gestures. Proceeding will deactivate these other features.
Resolution: After enabling 'App Advisor by Norton', turn on the other functions (e.g. Multi-Window, Air Gestures) from the Settings menu. It is safe to have these settings active at the same time.
