Protect Norton device security settings by enabling a settings password

To help prevent unauthorized changes to your Norton app settings, enable Protect Norton settings with a password and Product Tamper Protection.

Protect Norton settings with a password: Lets you set a password to view or change device security settings.

Product Tamper Protection: Checks and blocks modification attempts to Norton settings by unknown or suspicious apps.

Keep the Block vulnerable kernel drivers option turned on to ensure your Norton app blocks vulnerable drivers from loading into the Windows kernel memory.

Enable Protect Norton settings with a password

  1. Open your Norton device security app.

  2. On the left pane, click Settings.

  3. In the Settings window, click the General tab.

  4. Scroll down to the Protect Norton settings with a password section and click Create Password.

  5. In the Create password window, type a password and confirm. You need to set a password each time you turn this feature off and on.

  6. Click Create.

You have now enabled and set a password to ensure that only users who use the password can change device security settings.

Disable or remove Protect Norton settings with a password

  1. Open your Norton device security app.

  2. On the left pane, click Settings.

  3. In the Settings window, click the General tab.

  4. Scroll down to the Protect Norton settings with a password section and click three dots (...).

  5. Click Remove.

The settings password for your Norton device security app has now been disabled.

What if Norton settings password is lost or forgotten

Because the settings password protects sensitive security settings, there is no reset or recovery option.

If you forget the password, you must uninstall the Norton app using the Norton 360 Remover tool in Safe Mode, then reinstall the app to regain access to the settings and create a new password.

Important: Uninstalling Norton using this method removes all user‑created settings, including firewall rules, exclusions, backup settings, quarantined items, and logs, and you must reconfigure them after reinstallation.

Step 1: Uninstall your Norton app using the Norton 360 Remover tool

  1. Download the Norton 360 Remover tool.
Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.

  2. To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.

  3. Double-click the Norton_360_remover icon.

  4. Under the Reboot to Safe mode tile, click Reboot.

Make sure that you save all your work before going to the next step.

  5. Click Restart now.

  6. Wait for the Norton 360 Remover tool to launch and click Remove.

  7. Click Uninstall.

  8. After the uninstallation is completed, click Restart now.

Once the computer restarts, go to step 2 below to download and install the Norton device security product for your computer.

Step 2: Download and install Norton device security

  1. Go to my.Norton.com and sign in with your Norton account email address and password.

  2. In the dashboard page, click Download.
If you want to install a different subscribed product, go to My Subscriptions. In the My Subscriptions tab, select the Norton product with an active subscription and click Download.

  3. In the Get Started page, click Agree and Download.

  4. Once the download completes, run the installer from your browser, press Ctrl + J key, to open the Downloads window in your browser, and double-click the file that you downloaded.

  5. If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
