Submit a file or URL to Norton for review

This article explains how to report a false positive (a file or URL incorrectly detected as suspicious by Norton) or a false negative (a suspicious file or URL not detected by Norton).

Go to the Norton submission portal to submit the File or URL sample:https://submit.norton.com.

Select the correct option to submit a report based on your Norton app version. To know your Norton app version, go to Help > About or Settings > About tab.

Submit a URL and File detection on Norton 24.x or newer (Windows and MacOS) or Norton mobile app (Android and iOS)

  1. Go to Norton Submission Portal.
  2. Click URL and File Submission.
  3. Click Open submit form under False positive or False negative, depending on what you want to report.
  4. In the top panel, select whether you want to report a URL or a File.
  5. Fill in the following information:
    • Your email address
    • For a false negative report: The Website URL or the relevant File
    • For a false positive report: TheDetection name, Alert ID(located at the bottom of the detected alert popup), and the Website URL or the relevant File
    • Description of the issue
    • The guidelines for file submission are:
      • Uploads can be a maximum size of 500 MB.
      • You may upload a maximum of 1 file by placing the sample file within a ZIP or RAR archive.
      • Uploads must not be password-protected.
  6. Tick the reCAPTCHA box and click Submit.

Submit URL detected on the Norton internet browser extension

To know the version number of your Norton Safe Web internet browser extension, on the top-right corner click the Norton Safe Web Norton Safe Web icon icon.

Depending on your version of the extension, select one of the following.

“View a full Safe Web report” is not visible

  1. Go to Norton Submission Portal.
  2. Click URL and File Submission.
  3. Depending on your situation, under False positive or False negative, click Open submit form.
  4. Enter the following details:
    • Email address
    • Website URL
    • Description of the issue
  5. Click Submit.

“View a full Safe Web report” is visible

  1. Go to Norton Submissions Portal and click URL Submission.
  2. Enter the URL in the field and click on the magnifying glass icon.
    The current Norton rating for the website is provided.
  3. If you are not satisfied with the result, click Submit Dispute.
  4. Enter the following details:
    • Email address
    • Suggested category
    • Comments
  5. Click Submit.
  6. You can verify the website rating status change within 48 hours after submitting it by going to the Norton Submissions Portal and clicking URL Submission.
  7. Enter the URL in the field and click on the magnifying glass icon.
    The current Norton rating for the website is provided.

Submit a File detection on Norton 22.x or older (Windows) and Norton 8.x or older (MacOS)

  1. Go to Norton Submissions Portal and click File Submission.
  2. In the File Submission page, select one of the following:
    • Incorrectly Detected by Norton (False Positive)
    • Not Detected by Norton (False Negative)
  3. In the page that appears, enter the required details and click Submit.
    The guidelines for file submission are:
    • Uploads can be a maximum size of 500 MB.
    • You may upload a maximum of 1 file by placing the sample file within a ZIP or RAR archive.
    • Uploads must not be password-protected.
  4. You can verify the status within 48 hours after the submission by clicking on Check Status and entering the Request Id, which you've been provided after the submission.

Submit a spam or scam email

You can report a spam or scam email that you receive to Norton. For more information, read Report a spam or scam email to Norton.
