Norton installation fails with the message "We have detected an incompatible version of Norton product..." if you have an older version of Norton installed. To resolve this issue, uninstall the existing Norton product and reinstall the latest version from your Norton account.

STEP 1: Uninstall your Norton device security app

To uninstall your Norton device security app, you must know the Mac Administrator account username and password. This is usually the username and password you use to log in to your Mac.

Before you follow the steps below, ensure that you close your Norton device security app if it is already open.

  1. At the top of your home screen, in the Apple menu bar, click Go > Applications.

  2. Scroll down and double-click Norton Uninstaller.

  3. When the Norton uninstaller window appears, click Continue.

  4. When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click Install Helper. This is usually the username and password you use to log in to your Mac.

  5. Wait while the uninstaller removes the Norton device security app from your Mac.

  6. When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click OK.

  7. When the confirmation message appears, click Finish, or optionally click Continue to complete the uninstall survey.

Your Norton device security app is now uninstalled from your Mac.

  5. If you see an alert, click Allow.

  6. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded to launch the Norton installer.

  7. Double-click the Install Norton icon and click Open.

  8. Click Install Norton.

  9. In some cases, the Norton installer provides you with an alert to join the Norton Community Watch that collects information about potential security risks from your computer and sends the information to Norton for analysis. Do any one of the following:

    • Click Join Now to enable the Norton Community Watch on your Norton device security app.

    • Click Maybe Later to join the Norton Community Watch later.
