The Kill Switch feature in Norton VPN blocks or kills your Internet connection if the VPN connection drops. This helps maintain the privacy of your IP address (key to identifying your location and online activities) and other personal information if the VPN connection drops.

To unblock your Internet connection, reconnect your VPN connection or turn off Kill Switch.

To enable Kill Switch on your device, depending on your operating system, choose one of the following:

Windows

To know the version number of your Norton application, open Norton and navigate to Settings. 
If you are using Norton Secure VPN (version 6.x and below), you need to download and install the latest version of Norton VPN. To know more, read Download and install Norton VPN.

Depending on your product, choose one of the following:

Norton VPN (version 24.x and above)

  1. Open Norton VPN on your desktop.

  2. On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:

    • Norton VPN Standard: Click VPN Preferences tab. In the VPN Preferences tab, move the slider to enable Use Kill Switch if VPN disconnects.

    • Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Click Settings. In the Settings window, move the slider to enable Use Kill Switch if VPN disconnects.

Norton 360

Norton 360 (version 22.x and below)

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

    If you see the My Norton window, next to Secure VPN, from the drop-down menu, select Settings.

  2. In the Settings window, next to Kill Switch, move the slider to enable the feature.

Norton 360 (version 24.x and above)

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the Norton home page, click Privacy on the left-side of the page.

  3. On the Privacy window, under Secure VPN, click Open.

  4. On the Secure VPN window, click the Settings tab.

  5. On the Settings window, move the slider to enable Use Kill Switch if VPN disconnects.

Mac

To know the version number of your Norton product, open your Norton product and navigate to Settings.
If you are using Norton 360 (version 8.8.x and below), you need to download and install the latest version of Norton VPN. To know more, read Download and Install Norton device product on Mac.

Norton VPN (version 24.x and above)

  1. Open Norton VPN on your desktop.

  2. On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:

    • Norton VPN Standard: Click VPN Preferences tab. In the VPN Preferences tab, move the slider to enable Stops all internet traffic (Kill Switch).

    • Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Click Settings. In the Settings window, move the slider to enable Stops all internet traffic (Kill Switch).

Android

To know the version number of your Norton product, open the Norton app and tap the Menu icon > Settings > About.

Depending on your product, choose one of the following:

Norton VPN (version 4.x and above)

This applies to Norton VPN Standard, Norton VPN Plus and Norton VPN Ultra users.
  1. Launch Norton VPN.

  2. Tap the Settings icon on the top-right corner of the screen.

  3. In the Settings screen, under VPN Preferences, move the slider to enable Kill Switch.

Norton 360 (version 5.x and above)

  1. Launch Norton 360.

  2. At the bottom of the main screen, tap Menu and then tap VPN.

  3. In the VPN screen, tap the Settings icon at the top-right corner of the screen.

  4. In the VPN screen, next to Kill Switch, move the slider to enable the feature.
