Message: "The Norton Family browser extension is disabled..."

This problem can occur if the child disables the Norton Family plug-in or extension in the browser. As a result, the following features that require this plug-in do not work:

  • Safe Searching
  • Video monitoring
  • HTTPS web monitoring

To fix this problem, make sure that the Norton Family plug-in or extension is enabled in the browser that your child uses.

Enable the Norton Family add-on in Firefox

  1. Start Firefox.

  2. On the top-right corner, click the Open menu icon, and click Add-ons.

  3. On the Extensions tab, click Norton™ Family.

  4. Click on more options icon and then enable it.

  5. Restart Firefox.

Enable the Norton Family extension in Google Chrome

  1. Start Google Chrome.

  2. On the top-right corner, click the Customize and control Google Chrome icon, and then click Settings.

  3. In the Settings page, click Extensions.

  4. In the Extensions page, next to Norton™ Family, move the slider to enable the extension.

  5. If Chrome version is 70 or later, at the top-right, click Norton Family icon > This can read and change site data and then choose On all sites.

  6. Restart Google Chrome.

Enable the Norton Family extension in Microsoft Edge

  1. Start Microsoft Edge.

  2. On the top-right corner, click Settings and More icon and then click Extensions.

  3. In the Installed Extensions page, next to Norton Family, move the slider to enable the extension.

  4. At the top-right, click Norton Family icon > This can read and change site data and then choose On all sites.

  5. Restart Microsoft Edge.
