Message: "Norton Safe Web or Norton Safe Web Plus cannot be open during installation" on Mac

You cannot update the Norton Safe Web or Norton Safe Web Plus app for Safari to the latest version if the Norton app is running. Click Continue in the message window to exit the Norton app for Safari and install the update.

If the problem persists, force quit the Norton app for Safari, and quit the Safari browser.

STEP 1

Quit the Norton app for Safari and the Safari browser

  1. On the menu bar, from the Apple menu, select Force Quit.

    You may also press Command + Option + Esc keys to open the Force Quit Applications window.

  2. From the list of applications, select Norton Safe Web or Norton Safe Web Plus, and click Force Quit.

  3. Right-click the Safari icon in the Dock, and click Quit.

    If Safari is still running, repeat steps 1 to 3 to Force quit Safari.

STEP 2

Update Norton app for Safari

  1. Click the App Store icon in the Dock to open App Store.

  2. In the left pane, click Updates.

  3. From the list of available updates, click Norton Safe Web or Norton Safe Web Plus app, and then click Update.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
