Learn what to do if you received a notification for your phone number

If you received a SIM Card Change or Phone Number Port Notification that was not initiated by you, an identity thief may be taking over your phone number. Your phone number can then be used to take over accounts using one-time passwords, such as for your email, financial institutions, cryptocurrency, and social media accounts.

If you suspect that your phone number has been taken over by an identity thief, you'll lose phone service on your phone, or may suddenly have your phone switch to "Emergency Calls Only" status.

We recommend that you take immediate action to protect your accounts by doing the following:

  1. Contact your phone carrier (use the links below).
  2. Contact your financial institutions to report this.
  3. File a police report; and
  4. Place a fraud alert on your credit reports.
