Error: "You are attempting to install a version of Norton Family that is older than the one currently installed on your PC..."

This error occurs if you install an older version of Norton Family over a newer version. If you need to reinstall Norton Family, uninstall the current installation of Norton Family from your computer, and then download and install the latest version of Norton Family.

STEP 1

Uninstall Norton Family

  1. Sign in to your child's computer as an Administrator.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. In the Run dialog box, type the following, and then press Enter.

  4. In the list of installed programs, click Norton Family, and then click Uninstall.

  5. In the Norton Family window, type your parent email address and password, and click OK.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Click Restart to complete the uninstall process.

STEP 2

Reinstall Norton Family

  1. Sign in to your account

  2. On the Child's profile, click Add Device.

  3. Click Add New Device.

  4. Choose Your Child's Device and click Next.

  5. If you are on the same computer that your child uses, select Yes and then click Download Norton Family App.

    If you want to install Norton Family on another device, click No and then click Next. Follow the on-screen instructions to install on another device.

  6. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded.

  7. If you see the Open File - Security Warning message, click Run to continue.

    Norton Download Manager starts the download for Norton Family. When the download finishes, installation starts automatically.

  8. If you see the User Account Control prompt, click Yes to continue.

  9. Click Agree & Install.

  10. If you see a prompt to restart, click Restart and continue the installation after you restart the computer.

  11. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

STEP 3

Configure Norton Family to monitor user accounts

  1. Click the Norton Family icon in the notifications area and click Edit Accounts.

  2. Type your parent email address and password and click Sign In.

  3. Next to the child profile that you want to associate the computer with, click Edit.

  4. Select signs in as, and then select the local user accounts that your child uses.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Click OK.

If you are using Google account to sign in to Norton Family account, make sure that you sign out from your Google account in your browser after finishing the Norton Family setup.
