Enable Norton in your Login Items on macOS Ventura 13.x or later

The Login Items feature on your macOS (Ventura) or later helps you manage the apps that open automatically when you start up or log in to your Mac. By default, your Norton device security product is added to the Login Items list. Make sure that you do not disable Norton from the Login Items list since Norton checks and installs critical software updates in the background to ensure real-time protection.

You receive an alert from Norton to enable it in the Login Items in any one of the following cases:

  • If your Norton product is already opened in the background when you disable Norton from your Login Items.

  • If you launch your Norton product after disabling Norton from your Login Items.

To continue using all Norton features and protect your Mac from security risks you must enable Norton in your Login Items. Follow the below steps to enable and reactivate your Norton protection.

  1. On the Norton product main window, click Open or click Open Settings from the alert.

  2. Click General on the left pane and then click Login Items on the right pane.

  3. Under the Allow in the Background section, next to NortonLifeLock, Inc. or Norton Security, move the slider to enable Norton to run automatically after you log in to your Mac.

  4. Type your Mac administrator account password, and then click Ok.

In some cases, you may encounter problems with your Norton product scans or Norton product notifications after you disable and enable Norton in your Login Items. To resolve this problem, exit all the open applications and restart your Mac.
