Enter your Norton product key

Applicable for: Android;Mac;Windows;iOS

To install your Norton device security product on the current device, type your product key and then click the arrow button.

The product key is a 25-character alphanumeric string that is shown in five groups of five characters each, separated by hyphens. The location of the product key varies depending on how you acquired the product.

You need the product key only to register and install your protection for the first time. If you are trying to install on a new device or reinstall on an existing device, you can download and install the product from your account. For detailed steps, read Download and install your Norton device security.

Find your product key

You can find the product key in one of the following ways:

  • Purchased from the Norton™ official site: You can find your product key in the order confirmation email or on your Norton account.

  • Purchased a boxed product: The product key is printed either on the box or on the back of the card.

  • Got the service from a service provider: Contact your service provider for the activation PIN.

  • Came pre-installed on your device: You may find the product key in the text file at Program Files > Norton. If you do not see the text file, you can contact your device manufacturer for the product key. Some manufacturers may provide the product key on an activation card.

To activate or reactivate your Norton Utilities product, read Activate Norton Utilities Premium or Norton Utilities Ultimate.

Troubleshoot common product key related problems

Depending on your situation, select one of the following options.

Steps to activate or renew using a product key purchased from a store

  1. Open your Norton device security product.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To activate your subscription, in the Norton product main window, click Activate Now.
    • To renew your subscription, in the Norton product main window, click Help, and then under Account information, click Enter Product Key.
  3. Enter the product key that you received from the store.

When you are using a new product key to activate, the remaining days with your current subscription do not get added to the subscription associated with the new key.
To activate the Norton product on your mobile device, see Activate or renew your Norton 360 subscription for your mobile device.

'The product key you entered has already been activated' or 'associated with another account'

This problem may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • The product key that you entered is not linked with the account you are currently signed in to, but with another account. You may have purchased this key using a different account, or renewed the Norton subscription that is linked to an older account. So, enter the account credentials that you used during your Norton purchase. If you do not have access to the account, contact Member Services & Support for assistance.

  • If you purchased your Norton subscription from a third-party website or vendor, your product key has been activated by someone else. Contact the vendor with your purchase receipt and request for a new product key.

'The product key you entered is invalid. Please try again.'

This problem may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • The product key that you entered is incorrect, or is in invalid format. Check if you have mistyped the product key. The 25-character product key that you entered does not match the database that we maintain.
  • If you purchased your Norton subscription from a retail store, your product key has not been validated by the retail store where you purchased it. Return the subscription to the store with the receipt, and ask the store to validate your purchase. Your Norton product key is theft protected and the retail store needs to validate your purchase with Norton. After your product gets validated, you can use the product key and install your Norton device security product. For more information, see I cannot activate my Norton subscription purchased from a retail store.

Other product key related errors

'You already have an existing membership...'

If you have an existing subscription that has Identity Theft features (ITPS) linked already, you will encounter this error. Norton doesn't allow multiple subscriptions with Identity Theft features as it needs to be linked to one social security number (SSN). Gifting a second subscription is a great way to get your family or friends' online lives secured. You can either gift the new subscription to a family member and/or call Member Services & Support for further advice.

'You are requesting a non-downloading product'

The product key that you entered is linked to a Norton product that cannot be downloaded from your account.

If you do not have a valid product key, then you have no active key linked to your account. You have to purchase a new key to download and install your Norton device security product.

'Your product key has been canceled and is no longer valid'

The product key that you entered was reported as stolen. Norton has taken steps to prevent further use of this key. For more information, see Revoked Product Key.

'We are in the process of activating this product key'

The key activation is in progress and is taking some time. Try again after some time.

'This product key is no longer valid'

The product key that you entered is no longer valid. You have to purchase a new key to keep your devices protected.

'This product key has been disabled'

The product key you entered has been disabled. You have to purchase a new key to keep your devices protected.

'This product key has been refunded and is no longer valid'

The product key you entered has been refunded and can no longer be used. You have to purchase a new key to keep your devices protected.
