This error can be caused by another security product or due to a failed install when the product is being upgraded to a newer version. To resolve this issue, restart the computer.
Exit all programs.
Restart the computer.
If the problem persists, go to Step 2.
You can also read the program documentation or contact the program manufacturer for instructions to remove a non-Norton security product from your computer.
Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
Type in the following text, and then press Enter.
appwiz.cpl
In the list of currently installed programs, select the non-Norton security product, and then click Uninstall or Remove.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.
If the problem persists, go to Step 3.
If you have Norton Family installed, uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
On Windows XP computers, download the Windows XP compatible version of the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.
To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.
Double-click the NRnR icon.
Read the license agreement, and click Agree.
Click Advanced Options.
Click Remove Only.
Click Remove.
Click Restart Now.
After the computer restarts, follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the Norton product. If you have any issues reinstalling the Norton product, read Download Norton device security product on your device. Reinstall Norton Family if you have uninstalled it.
