Cloud Backup stores and protects important files and documents as a preventative measure against data loss due to hard drive failures, stolen devices, and even ransomware. You can restore your valuable information from your Norton product's backups.
Follow the below instructions to get started with the Cloud Backup feature.
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Security.
In the Security dashboard, in the Cloud Backup tile, click Open.
If prompted to authenticate, sign in with your Norton account credentials.
In the Cloud Backup window, click the Cloud Backup tab.
Click the icon at the bottom.
In the window that appears, click Add and add the files and folders you want to include in the backup.
Under Detect special file types, select the special file types you want to include in the backup:
Sensitive files: Detects sensitive information like passwords, addresses, or bank account details and includes them in the backup.
Notes: Detects notes stored in your computer and includes them in the backup.
Contacts: Detects your saved contacts and includes them in the backup.
By default, Norton excludes all the special file types in the backup. If you want Norton to detect special file types, turn on the applicable file types.
Review the list of files and folders and then click Create Backup.
Wait for the backup task to complete. This may take some time, depending on the size of the backup set.
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Security.
In the Security dashboard, in the Cloud Backup tile, click Open.
If prompted to authenticate, sign in with your Norton account credentials.
In the Cloud Backup window, click the Local backups tab.
Click Create local backup/Create new backup.
In the Create new local backup window, do the following:
Backup name: Provide a name for your backup set.
Backup location: Select a drive in your computer or USB storage device where you want the Norton Backup Drive folder to be created.
Click Select files and add the files and folders you want to include in the backup.
You can use the Add option to add additional files and folders.
Review your backup set and then click Create Backup.
Wait for the backup task to complete. This may take some time, depending on the size of the backup set.
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Security.
In the Security dashboard, in the Cloud Backup tile, click Open.
In the Cloud Backup window, select your backup location.
Your options are:
Cloud Backup
Local backups
Click Manage/Manage Files next to the backup set you want to update.
In the window that appears, under Files tab, do the following:
To add files and folders, click Add to add files and folder to the backup set.
To delete files and folders, select the items and click the > Remove from backup > Remove and exclude.
On the Settings tab, customize your backup settings:
Backup name: Displays your backup name. To update your backup set name, click Change.
Automatically Sync: Turn on this option if you want Norton to automatically back up the latest version of your backed-up files periodically.
Back up common file types only: Select this option to not include system files and other uncommon file types. If turned off, your Norton product backs up all files.
Excluded Files: Click Manage to view the list of items excluded from the backup. Excluded items never get backed up. If you need to back up an excluded item, remove it from the list and add it to your backup set.
Data cache on local disk (for Cloud Backup only): Select a drive in your computer where we can cache your backup when cloud storage space is full. Make sure that the drive you select has atleast 50 GB of available free space.
Automatic back up special files: In addition to common file types like picture, music, or video files, Norton helps detect and backup special file types:
Sensitive files: Detects sensitive information like addresses or bank account details and includes them in the backup.
Notes: Detects notes stored in your computer and includes them in the backup.
Contacts: Detects your saved contacts and includes them in the backup.
By default, Norton excludes all the special file types in the backup. If you want Norton to detect special file types, turn on the applicable file types.

On the left pane, click Security.
In the Security dashboard, in the Cloud Backup tile, Open.
In the Cloud Backup window, select your backup location.
Your options are:
Cloud Backup
Local backups
Click Manage/Manage Files next to the backup set you want to update.
In the window that appears, under Files tab, click Add.
If prompted to authenticate, sign in with your Norton account credentials.
Navigate and select the file or folder you want to include in the backup.
Wait for the backup task to complete. This may take some time, depending on the size of the file or folder.
Green check mark: Indicates the backup is complete and files are secured in the cloud.
Orange exclamation mark: Indicates some files may be in local backup. This may be due to a lack of cloud storage space.
Red exclamation mark: Indicates that storage space is full and new files are not backed up.
Red cross (x) mark: Indicates a failed backup. Try running the backup after some time.
Norton Cloud Backup is available only on Windows.
You must be signed in to your Norton product to use the Cloud Backup feature.
The first time you run a backup, your Norton product may take some time to examine and copy all the files on your computer. If your Internet connection is slow, the process may take longer.
You can view the available storage space in the Cloud Backup window.
Your Norton product does not back up your files automatically if the backup destination is a local backup. Backing up to local storage devices needs your intervention.
If the backup does not complete, your Norton product suggests possible causes, such as inadequate storage capacity or speed limitations. Always check that you are connected to the Internet when running a backup and that storage devices are connected and turned on.
