Exclude files and folders from Norton Real-Time Protection scans on Mac

You can configure your Norton product to exclude specific files or folders from Norton Real-Time Protection scans. When you add a file or folder to the exclusions list, your Norton product ignores the file or folder when it scans for security risks.

Excluding a file from the Norton Real-Time Protection scans reduces the protection level of your Mac and should be used only if you have a specific need. You should only exclude items if you are confident they are not infected.

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, in the Antivirus tile, click Open.

  4. Click the Exclusions tab and click Add exclusion.

  5. Select the files or folders you want to exclude from the scan and click Open.

  6. If you want to remove an exclusion, in the Exclusions window, hover your cursor over the relevant exclusion file and then click Remove (the remove icon).
