Migrate your local vault to online vault in Norton Password Manager for Japan

What is happening?

  • We are retiring local vault from legacy Password Manager

  • Users who are using the Local Vault will be migrated to Online Vault

  • Online Vault has numerous advantages to Local Vault

  • Local Vault is currently supported only in Microsoft IE browser which Microsoft already ended support

What is the difference between Local and Online Vault?

  • No mobile apps are available for Local Vault (iOS & Android apps are available for Online Vault)

  • Browser plugin for Local Vault is available only for outdated browsers (IE), while Online Vault supports most modern browsers (Chrome, Chromium, New Edge browser, Mozilla Firefox, Safari)

  • Local Vault is Windows only, while Online Vault is multiplatform

How to migrate from Local Vault to Online Vault?

  • Export data from local vault and import in new online vault

  • After the Local Vault EOL date, the Password Manager icon in the main Norton Security product UI and/or browser extension will redirect users to the export flow.

Export data from local vault using your Norton product

  1. Start your Norton device security product.

    If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton main window, double-click Internet Security, and then click Password Manager.

  3. Click Export in the pop-up window and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Support for Legacy Password Manager UI is removed and we recommend you to start using the Norton Password Manager browser extension.

  4. Choose a destination to save your local vault data in Plain Text - CSV format (Logins & Notes alone will be exported)

    You can access the Export UI from Internet Explorer browser Norton toolbar touch point.

  5. After exporting your local vault data, if you have not installed Norton Password Manager browser extension on your default browser, you should see the following screen asking you to install the browser extension.

  7. After installing the extension, complete Online Vault Setup from the extension. You will be directly taken to the below Import screen of the extension from where you can import the CSV file which you exported from Local Vault.

  8. If you skip setting up online vault from extension after installation, you will receive a prompt to export the data again when you click on the Password Manager icon from “Internet Security” Pillar of Security Product or from Norton toolbar in Internet Explorer. Once export is successful, the following Import data UI appears.Sample alt text

Set up new Online Vault in your browser extension

  1. Open browser and navigate to URL: https://my.norton.com/extspa/passwordmanager?redirected=fromlegacy    

  2. Click Install to get the Online Vault browser extension.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions:

  4. Select Norton Password Manager from the extension toolbar.

  5. Select Next in Set Up Your Web Browser Section.

  • User can either use an existing Norton Account Login (Apple ID and Google ID are supported) or create a new Norton Account.

  • User needs to provide valid email address and password for the new Norton Account.

  • User can continue with their existing Apple or Google ID. A new Norton Account will be created and linked to their respective ID.

Import data to Online Vault from your browser

  1. Launch your browser.

  2. Click on the Norton Password Manager icon in the top right corner of your browser.

  3. Enter your Norton Account password and click Sign in.

  4. Enter your Vault password and click Open Vault.

  5. In the top right corner, click the Norton Password Manager icon.

  6. Click the Settings menu icon

  7. Select Import.

  8. In the Import Passwords window, select the right Source.

  9. Click Download.

  10. Click Select File and select the exported data file.

  11. In the Import Data window of Norton Password Manager, select the data you want to protect in your vault, and click Import.

    To import the CSV exported from local vault, please choose below option.

  12. Click Finish.
