Here is some helpful information to assist you in resolving an Identity Alert.

1. Contact the institution where the Alert originated.
Advise them that you believe a fraudulent application may have been made in your name.
  1. You may be required to verify your Name, DOB, and SSN.
2. Once the institution locates the fraudulent application...
  1. If the application was denied or not yet processed, ask the creditor to notify the credit bureaus to have any incorrect credit inquires removed.
  2. If the application was approved and an account opened, the institution may request documentation from you to have the account investigated as fraudulent. If this is the case, go to our Restoration Assist page for further instructions.

Some additional steps you may consider taking at this time

1. Obtain your credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies.
Go to annualcreditreport.com and obtain your credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies. You can review these reports for any suspicious activity.
2. We recommend an annual review of your specialty credit reports from the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)-regulated specialty credit reporting agencies.

Like the three major credit reporting agencies, these agencies collect and house information regarding payday loans, installment loans, and rent-to-own applications, accounts, and payments. Your specialty credit reports can be obtained by going to the following websites:

3. You may wish to place a fraud alert on your credit file.

You can request a 1-year fraud alert by calling one of the three credit bureaus. The alert expires every year, so if you want to maintain the alert, you will need to call every year to submit a new request. The credit bureau you call will alert the other two credit bureaus to your request, so you should only need to make one call per year. You can also file a 7-year fraud alert by mailing a copy of a police report to the credit bureaus. The fraud alert phone numbers for the credit bureaus are as follows:
