Some streaming services provide content that is restricted to specific geographic regions. These services may implement measures to prevent access if they detect the use of VPNs, proxies, or other methods intended to navigate around these regional restrictions.
If you encounter this issue, for example, when traveling and wanting to access your local content, try the suggested steps below in the following order.
Disable DNS over HTTPS on your browser. To disable DNS over HTTPS, depending on your browser, choose one of the following:
The DNS over HTTPS feature is not available in iOS for Google Chrome.
Depending on your operating system, choose one of the following:
Open Google Chrome and enter chrome://settings/security.
Under Advanced, toggle Use secure DNS off.
Open Google Chrome on your Android device.
Tap the Menu icon on the top-right corner of the screen, and tap Settings
In the Settings screen, tap Privacy and Security.
In the Privacy and Security screen, under Security, tap Use Secure DNS.
In the Use Secure DNS screen, move the toggle to disable Use Secure DNS.
The DNS over HTTPS feature is not available in Android and iOS for Mozilla Firefox.
Open Mozilla Firefox and click Open application menu on the top-right corner of the window.
Click Settings.
In the window that appears, click Privacy & Security.
In the Browser Privacy window, navigate to DNS over HTTPS section at the bottom of the window and click Off.
The DNS over HTTPS feature is not available in Android and iOS for Microsoft Edge.
Open Microsoft Edge and click Settings and more on the top-right corner of the window.
Click Settings.
In the window that appears, click Privacy, Search & Services.
In the window that appears, move the slider to disable Use secure DNS to specify how to lookup the network address for websites under the Security section at the bottom of the window.
If the issue still persists, disable IPv6 on your device. To disable IPv6 on your computer, follow the steps below:
Depending on the Windows version that you are using, choose one of the following:
Right-click the network icon in the notification tray on the bottom-right corner of the screen and select Open Network & Internet settings.
In the window that appears, click Network and Sharing Center.
Click on your network adapter and click Properties.
In the Properties window that appears, locate Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck it.
Click OK.
Click the Windows icon on the bottom-left corner of the screen and type Network Connection.
In the results that appear, click View Network Connections.
In the Network Connections window, right-click on your network adapter and then click Properties.
In the Properties window that appears, locate Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck it.
Click OK.
If the issue persists, connect to a different VPN protocol.
To connect to a different VPN protocol, depending on the operating system, choose one of the following:
Open Norton VPN app on your desktop.
On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:
Norton VPN Standard: Click the VPN Preferences tab and choose one of the following protocols:
Automatic (recommended)
WireGuard
Mimic
OpenVPN
Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Click Settings. In the Settings window, choose one of the following protocols:
Automatic (recommended)
WireGuard
Mimic
OpenVPN
Open Norton VPN app on your desktop.
On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:
Norton VPN Standard: Click the VPN Preferences tab and choose one of the following protocols:
Automatic (recommended)
IPSec
Mimic
Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Click Settings. In the Settings window, choose one of the following protocols:
Automatic (recommended)
IPSec
Mimic
Launch Norton VPN.
Tap the Settings icon on the top-right corner of the screen.
In the VPN Preferences screen, tap VPN Protocol Settings.
In the VPN Protocol screen, you can choose one of the following protocols:
Automatic (recommended)
WireGuard
OpenVPN
Mimic
If the issue persists, connect to a different VPN region.
To manually change the geographic region, depending on the operating system, choose one of the following:
Depending on your product, choose one of the following:
Open Norton VPN on your desktop.
On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:
Norton VPN Standard: Click Connection > Change Location, and then select the geographic region you want from the drop-down list.
Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Select the geographic region you want from the drop-down list
Open Norton 360.
In the My Norton window, click the drop-down arrow next to Secure VPN and click VPN region.
In the VPN region window, select the geographic region you want from the drop-down list.
Open Norton 360.
On the Norton dashboard, click Privacy on the left side of the window.
In the Privacy window, under Secure VPN, click Open.
In the Secure VPN window, under the Connection tab, click Change Location.
In the Change VPN location window, select the geographic region that you want from the drop-down list.
Depending on your product, choose one of the following:
Open Norton VPN on your desktop.
On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:
Norton VPN Standard: Click Connection > Change Location, and then select the geographic region you want from the drop-down list.
Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Select the geographic region you want from the drop-down list
Open Norton 360.
On the Norton dashboard, click Privacy on the left side of the window.
In the Privacy window, under Secure VPN, click Open.
In the Secure VPN window, under the Connection tab, click Change Location.
In the Change VPN location window, select the geographic region that you want from the drop-down list.
Depending on your product, choose one of the following:
Launch Norton VPN.
On the Norton VPN screen, tap the drop-down list next to Fastest location.
On the Fastest location screen, select the geographic region you want from the list.
Launch Norton 360.
At the bottom of the main screen, tap Menu and then tap VPN.
Tap the drop-down list next to Fastest location and then select the geographic region you want from the list.
Depending on your product, choose one of the following:
Launch Norton VPN.
On the Norton VPN screen, tap the drop-down list next to Fastest location.
On the Change your location screen, select the geographic region that you want from the drop-down list.
Launch Norton 360.
On the Norton VPN screen, tap the drop-down list next to Fastest location.
On the Change your location screen, select the geographic region that you want from the drop-down list.
Some streaming services like Disney+, Hulu, and ChatGPT(website), may have issues loading with VPN enabled. If this occurs, reload or refresh the page a few times.
You may occasionally encounter issues logging in to other streaming services with VPN enabled. If you face this issue, log in to your streaming service and turn on the VPN from your desktop or mobile device.
Open Norton VPN on your desktop.
Depending on your operating system, choose one of the following:
On Windows and Mac: On the Norton dashboard, move the toggle to disable VPN.
On Android and iOS: On the main screen, move the toggle to disable VPN.
Launch your streaming service and sign in.
Open your VPN product on your desktop or mobile device.
Connect to your desired country and access the content you wish to watch.
If the issue persists, disable Ad Tracker Blocking from your device.
Open Norton VPN on your desktop.
On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:
Norton VPN Standard: Click Ad Tracker Blocking. In the screen that appears, move the slider to disable Block ad trackers when VPN is on
Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Click Settings. In the Settings window, move the slider to disable Block Ad Trackers when VPN is on.
Open Norton VPN on your desktop.
On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:
Norton VPN Standard: Click Ad Tracker Blocking. In the screen that appears, move the slider to disable Block ad trackers when VPN is on
Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: Click Settings. In the Settings window, move the slider to disable Block Ad Trackers when VPN is on.
Launch Norton VPN.
Tap the Settings icon on the top-right corner of the screen.
In the VPN Configuration screen, tap Ad Tracker Blocking.
In the Ad Tracker Blocking screen, move the slider to disable Block Ad Trackers.
Launch Norton VPN.
Tap the Settings icon on the top-right corner of the screen.
In the VPN Configuration screen, tap Ad Tracker Blocking.
In the Ad Tracker Blocking screen, move the slider to disable Block Ad Trackers.
If the issue persists, try to use a different browser to use the streaming website or use your browser in incognito mode and check if you are able to use the streaming website.
