Remove a non-Norton security product from your computer

If you cannot uninstall the non-Norton security products from your computer, we recommend that you use the dedicated removal utility or instructions that are designed specifically for each product. Before you remove the product, we recommend that you create a System Restore point.

Depending on your operating system, select one of the following.

I have Windows

Create a System Restore point on Windows Vista and later versions

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    sysdm.cpl
  3. In the System Properties window, on System Protection tab, click Create.

  4. Enter a description for the restore point, and then click Create.

    If you cannot create the restore point, then increase free disk space and try to create the restore point.

Create a System Restore point on Windows XP

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    rstrui.exe
  3. In the System Restore window, click Create a restore point.

  4. Enter a description for the restore point, and then click Create.

    If you cannot create the restore point, then increase free disk space and try to create the restore point.

Remove the non-Norton security product

Select the non-Norton security product, that you want to remove:

I have Mac

Uninstall the third-party security software

  1. Click the Finder icon in the Dock to be in the Finder.
  2. On the menu bar, click Go > Applications.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • If an app isn't in a folder or doesn't have an Uninstaller, drag the app from the Applications folder to the Trash, then choose Finder > Empty Trash.

    • If the app is in a folder, open the app's folder to check for an Uninstaller. If you see Uninstall App or App Uninstaller, double-click it.

      Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the app.

  4. After completing the uninstall, restart your Mac and install Norton.
