Fix computer freezing problems when installing Norton Utilities 16.0

STEP 1

Run the install from the Symantec Download Manager Folder

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type the following text, and then press Enter.

    %temp%

    The current user's Temp folder opens in Windows Explorer.

  3. Open the Symantec Download Manager folder.

  4. Double-click the Install.exe file to start the installation.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

STEP 2

Uninstall the non-Symantec security product

    This problem can happen due to conflict with the non-Symantec security product that is installed in the computer. If you do not have any non-Symantec security product, you can skip this step.

    You can also read the program documentation or contact the program manufacturer for instructions to remove a non-Symantec security product from your computer.

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    appwiz.cpl

  3. In the list of currently installed programs, select the non-Symantec security product, and then click Uninstall or Remove.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.

    If the problem persists, go to Step 3.

STEP 3

Verify the chipset drivers

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    devmgmt.msc

  3. In the Device Manager window, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

  4. Under the list of controllers, if Standard SATA AHCI Controller is displayed, follow Step 4.

STEP 4

Download and install AMD chipset drivers

  1. Download the latest version of AMD Chipset Drivers.

    Save the file on to your desktop.

  2. Double-click the file that you downloaded to start the installation of AMD chipset drivers.

  3. Follow on-screen instructions.

  4. When the installation finishes, restart your computer.

STEP 5

Confirm installation of AMD chipset drivers

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    devmgmt.msc

  3. In the Device Manager window, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

  4. Under the list of controllers, AMD SATA Controller is displayed.
