FAQ: Migrating your legacy Norton 360 app to the latest version

Why is this migration happening?

To ensure better protection, performance, and future updates, we are announcing the End of Life for several older versions of our Norton 360 app. With the 22.x and previous versions being the older versions, we recommend upgrading to the latest version of the Norton 360 app to receive the latest protection.

What is the supported Windows OS version to install the latest Norton 360 app?

Supported Windows operating systems

  • Microsoft Windows 11/10 (all versions except Windows 11/10 in S mode)

  • Microsoft Windows 11 with ARM processors, except for mixed reality and IoT editions

  • Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 (all versions)

Some protection features are not available in Windows 8 Start screen browsers.

  • Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) with Service Pack 1 (SP 1) with SHA2 support

Unsupported Windows operating systems

  • Windows XP

  • Windows Vista

  • Windows 7 (Service Pack 0)

To find your Windows OS version, refer to the following article: Microsoft support >Find Information About Your Windows Device.

How do I know if I am using the older version of the Norton 360 app?

Follow the steps below to know the version of the Norton 360 app installed on your computer:

  1. Open your Norton device security app.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton product main window, click Help.

  3. In the Help Center window, under General Information, click About.

If your Norton 360 app version is 22.x or earlier, and if your device is running on a supported Windows operating system, then uninstall and reinstall your Norton 360 app to the latest version.

How do I manually install the new Norton 360 app on a supported OS version of Windows?

In some cases, you may have issues migrating your legacy Norton 360 app to the latest version on a supported Windows OS. You can manually uninstall the legacy Norton 360 and install the latest version.

Important points to know before uninstalling your legacy Norton 360 app:

  • Ensure that you back up your existing Norton Cloud Backup data.

  • You may need to reconfigure the core protection features (real time protection, scans, etc.) after migration, but protection coverage is maintained or improved as part of the migration initiative.

  • Your subscription and remaining days are carried forward to the new Norton 360 app if you use the same Norton account and an eligible plan.

Step 1: Uninstall the legacy Norton 360 app

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. In the Run dialog box, type in the following text, and then press Enter:

    appwiz.cpl
  3. In the list of currently installed programs, click Norton AntiVirus or Norton 360, and then click Uninstall or Change.

  4. Click Yes to confirm.

  5. When the uninstall finishes, exit all programs and restart the computer.

Step 2: Download and install the latest version of the Norton 360 app

  1. Go to my.Norton.com and sign in with your Norton account email address and password.

  2. In the dashboard page, click Download.
If you want to install a different subscribed product, go to My Subscriptions. In the My Subscriptions tab, select the Norton product with an active subscription and click Download.

  3. In the Get Started page, click Agree and Download.

  4. Once the download completes run the installer from your browser, press Ctrl + J key, to open the Downloads window in your browser, and double-click the file that you downloaded.

  5. If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.

What happens to my backup and settings after migrating to the latest Norton 360 app?

  • Ensure that you back up your existing Norton Cloud Backup data.

  • You may need to reconfigure the core protection features (real time protection, scans, etc.) after migration, but protection coverage is maintained or improved as part of the migration initiative.

What happens to my existing subscription after migration?

Your existing subscription and remaining days are carried forward to the new Norton 360 app if you use the same Norton account and an eligible plan.

What are the key differences between the legacy and the new Norton 360?

New features:

  • Sandbox: lets you open suspicious apps and files in a secure environment (Windows only).

  • Quarantine: a secure environment for suspicious files and viruses that won’t allow them to infect your device (Windows only).

  • Sensitive Data Scan: part of Cloud Backup, it works in the background to identify sensitive data on your device that you might want to store in the cloud (Windows only).

  • Startup Manager: helps get your Mac started faster by enabling you to select which applications launch automatically when your Mac is turned on (Mac only).

Updated features:

  • SafeCam: in Norton 360 plans we’ve added protection for your microphone in addition to your webcam (Windows only).

  • Ransomware Protection (formerly Data Protection): this feature has been renamed to make it more intuitive and easier to find.

  • Email Protection: this feature now works for any email client, not just Outlook. We have removed the AntiSpam functionality because we weren’t able to provide the correct level of user experience we wanted. This only applies to the spam filter itself. The rest of the email security features have been retained in Email Protection (Windows only).
