Configure Exclusions/Low Risks settings

Exclusions / Low Risks options lets you exclude disks, folders, and files from risk and Auto-Protect scans. It provides a way for you to exclude known and safe files or application that are detected as a low-security risk.

Excluding low-risk items from scans reduces your protection and should be used only if you have a specific need.

Configure Norton to exclude low-risk items

By default, Norton removes risks automatically. If you want Norton to ignore low-risk items or ask you what to do whenever Norton detects a low-risk item, you can configure Low Risks.

Configure Low Risks option

In the Scans and Risks tab, under Exclusions/Low Risks, in the Low Risks row:

    • To let Norton remove the risk, move the switch to Remove.

    • To let Norton ignore the risk, move the switch to Ignore.

    • To let Norton to ask you to respond to a risk, move the switch to the Ask Me state.

Exclude disks, folders, and files from scans

The Items to Exclude from scans option lets you specify disks, folders, and files to exclude from risk scans. You can add items, modify items that are already excluded, or remove items.

Exclude disks, folders, and files from scans

  1. In the Scans and Risks tab, under Exclusions/Low Risks, in the Items to Exclude from Scans row, click Configure.

  2. In the Scan Exclusions window:

    • Click Add Folders to specify folders you want to exclude from scan.

    • Click Add Files to specify files you want to exclude from scan.

Additionally, you can use Edit and Remove to change or remove the folder or file from the exclusion list.

Exclude disks, folders, and files from Auto-Protect, Script Control, Behavioral Protection, and Download Intelligence detection scans

The Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, Script Control, Behavioral Protection and Download Intelligence Detection option lets you specify disks, folders, and files to exclude. You can add items, modify items that are already excluded, or remove items.

Specify disks, folders, and files to exclude from Auto-Protect, Script Control, Behavioral Protection and Download Intelligence Detection

  1. In the Scans and Risks tab, under Exclusions/Low Risks, in the Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, Script Control, Behavioral Protection, and Download Intelligence Detection row, click Configure.

  2. In the Real Time Exclusions window, do the following:

    • Click Add Folders to specify folders you want to exclude from Auto-Protect, Script Control, Behavioral Protection and Download Intelligence Detection.

    • Click Add Files to specify files you want to exclude from Auto-Protect, Script Control, Behavioral Protection and Download Intelligence Detection.

Additionally, you can use Edit and Remove to change or remove the folder or file from the exclusion list.

To exclude a file from Download Intelligence, you must select a folder and download the file to the selected folder. For example, Norton lets you download an unsafe executable to this folder and does not remove it from your computer.

We recommend that you create a new folder specific for Download Intelligence exclusions.

Exclude known security risks from all scans

The Signatures to Exclude from All Detections option lets you exclude specific known security risks from scans. If a program you use relies on a security risk to function, you can exclude the security risk from scans. You can add and remove items to exclude and view details about the security risk.

Signature exclusions reduce your protection and should be used only if you have a specific need. Only exclude security risks from scans if you understand the risk impact.

  2. In the Clear file IDs excluded during scans row, click Clear All.
