Turn on Norton backup from Settings window

By default, Norton Backup settings are turned on and the following features are on:

  • Backup Status Overlay: Inserts an icon on files.

    Protected - Green icon next to the file indicates that the file has been backed up

    Unprotected - Blue icon next to the file indicates that the file has been modified after it has been backed up

    Excluded - Gray icon next to the file indicates that the files has been excluded from its backup set

  • Norton Backup Drive: Lets you view the list of backup destinations.

  • Context Menu: Lets you use the right-click shortcut menu to add or delete files from backup sets.

  • Property Page: Adds Norton Backup details to the File Properties page of backed up files

Turn on Norton Backup

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

    If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton product main window, click Settings.

  3. In the Settings window, click Backup Settings.

  4. In the Backup Settings window, in the Backup row, slide the switch to On.

    If you turn the switch off, you cannot perform any backup tasks from the Norton product.

Turn on or turn off backup overlay icons

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

    If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton product main window, click Settings.

  3. In the Settings window, under Quick Controls, do the following:

    • To turn off backup overlay icons, uncheck Backup Status Overlays.

    • To turn on backup overlay icons, check Backup Status Overlays.
