Error: "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine. Please run LiveUpdate..." on Mac
To fix this problem, uninstall your Norton product using the RemoveSymantecMacFiles tool and then reinstall it.
RemoveSymantecMacFiles tool does not work on macOS 10.15.0 or later. To manually uninstall Norton on your Mac, read: Uninstall Norton device security on Mac.
Run RemoveSymantecMacFiles

Download the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file.

Double-click the
file that you downloaded.The file is expanded.

Open the
folder. -
Double-click the
file. -
Type your administrator password, and then press
.When you type your password, no characters appear.

To remove all Symantec files and folders, type
. -
Press
.RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all of the Symantec files

On the Terminal menu, click .
RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all folders that are created by Norton installers and any files within those folders. You will lose all files that reside in those folders, including any you have created.
Install Norton

Go to my.norton.com and click .

Type in your email address and password for Norton, and click

In the My Norton portal, click

In the Get Started page, click .

When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded to launch the Norton installer.

In the Norton installer window, select
, and click to start the installation. -
When you see a prompt for Install Helper tool, type your administrator password and then click

When prompted, in the Norton installation window, click

After restarting your Mac, in the Norton installation window that appears, click System Preferences.

In the Security & Privacy preferences window, on the General tab, click the lock icon at the bottom, type your administrator password and click .

Next to System software from application Norton was blocked from loading, click . Exit the System Preferences window.

In the Norton installation window, click

In the Norton Installation window, click Security & Privacy settings.

In the Security & Privacy preferences window, on the Privacy tab, click the lock icon at the bottom, type your administrator password and click .

In the left pane, select System Preferences window.

You must restart your computer to complete the installation process.

If prompted to activate, type your email address and password to sign in to Norton. From the list of available licenses in your account, select your license and click
