Applicable for: Windows

Create your own custom Norton scans

In addition to the preset Norton scans that work well for most users, you can create customized scans to scan specific drives, folders, or files on a schedule that you choose.

Create a custom scan

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, in the Scans tile, click Open.

  4. In the Scans window, click the Custom scans tab.

  5. Click Create Scan.

  6. In the New custom scan window, under Scan name, type a name for your custom scan.

  7. Under Schedule your scan, select how often your custom scan should run.

  8. Under Files or folders to scan, click Add.

  9. Navigate and select the file or folder that you want to scan.

  10. Repeat Steps 8-9 until you have all the items added for your custom scan.

You cannot add files or folders to a custom scan after the custom scan is created. For new items, you must create another custom scan.
  11. Customize the scan settings as per your need. For more information, see Configure scan settings for Norton scans.

  12. Click Create.

Run a custom scan

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, in the Scans tile, click Open.

  4. In the Scans window, click the Custom scans tab.

  5. Click the start icon next to the custom scan you want to run.

  6. After the scan completes, review the scan results and click Finish.

Edit or delete a Norton custom scan

You can edit a custom scan that you created to rename the scan, change the schedule, or change other scan settings. You cannot add files or folders to a custom scan after the custom scan is created. To add new items, you must create a new custom scan.

If you no longer need to run the scan, you can delete it. You can delete only the custom scans that you create. For the default scans such as Smart Scan, Quick Scan, Full Scan, Targeted Scan, and Startup Scan, you can only change the schedule and scan settings.

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, in the Scans tile, click Open.

  4. In the Scans window, click the Custom scans tab.

  5. Click next to a custom scan and do one of the following:

    • To edit the scan, click Edit. Make the required changes and click Save.

    • To delete the scan, click Delete.
