Resolving problems with receiving SMS or voice code for your Norton account

Applicable for: Android;Mac;Windows;iOS

If you enter the wrong 2FA SMS or voice code too many times while attempting to sign in to your Norton account, your account will be temporarily locked. Access usually resets after one hour. Avoid signing in during this time.

After one hour, try again. If you still have issues receiving your SMS or voice code, follow the steps below.

  • Verify that the last two digits of the phone number on the screen match the one linked to your 2FA and that your phone is active.
  • If necessary, choose a different method (such as an alternate phone number, mobile authenticator app, or backup code) that you set up during the initial 2FA setup.

If the steps above do not resolve your issue, see the list of other possible causes below.

Additional causes of 2FA SMS or voice code delivery failures

Weak or no mobile signal

  • Ensure your phone has a strong signal. Poor network coverage can block incoming messages.

Do Not Disturb or Focus Mode is on

  • These settings can silence or block incoming messages. Turn them off and try again.

Message filtered as spam

  • Your phone or messaging app might move 2FA messages to a spam or blocked folder.

Too many code requests in a short time

  • Requesting multiple codes too quickly may trigger a delay. Wait a few minutes and try again.

Phone storage is full

  • If your SMS inbox is full, your phone may not receive new messages. Try clearing some old texts.

Roaming or international issues

  • If you are traveling, some carriers may restrict or delay short-code (often used for 2FA) delivery. You can try a different 2FA method, like a backup code or an authenticator app.

Delay due to carrier maintenance

  • Sometimes, mobile carriers may undergo scheduled maintenance that delays or blocks SMS messages. If you think this might be the case, check with your carrier. Your mobile service provider can help confirm and resolve the issue. If the steps above do not work, contact our Norton Support.
