Fix problem with repeated Application Blocking alerts for an application from Norton for Mac

The Application Blocking feature lets you configure the firewall rules for the different applications on your Mac. Based on these settings, Norton Firewall allows or blocks the Internet access for the applications on your Mac.

The Application Blocking alert appears when a new application that is not configured in Application Blocking settings, tries to access the Internet. In the Application Blocking alert window, you can choose to either allow or block the Internet access for the application.

In some instances, the Application Blocking rule for an application does not apply and results in repeated Application Blocking alerts. To fix this problem, remove the Application Blocking rule for the application, and add it again.

STEP 1

Remove the Application Blocking rule

  1. Start Norton.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton main window, click Advanced or Settings.

  3. In the left pane, click Firewall.

  4. In the right pane, next to Application Blocking, click the settings icon.

  5. In the Application Blocking window, from the list of applications, select the application that you see the repeated Norton alerts for.

  6. Click Remove.

  7. In the confirmation window, click Remove.

  8. Click Done.

  9. Exit all programs and restart your Mac.

STEP 2

Set up a new Application Blocking rule

  1. Start Norton.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton main window, click Advanced or Settings.

  3. In the left pane, click Firewall.

  4. In the right pane, next to Application Blocking, click the settings icon.

  5. In the Application Blocking window, click Add application.

  6. In the Choose Application window, select the required application.

If the application that you want to choose does not appear in the list, click Other to search or locate the application.

  7. Click Choose.

The application that you added appears in the Application Blocking window with the default access setting as 'allow'. If you want to block the application, next to the application name, click allow, and then select block.
