Learn more about Boot Time Protection

Boot Time Protection increases security when you start your computer. A boot time scan is a virus scan that runs before the operating system fully loads. This allows your Norton product to scan files before they are used by another program or the operating system.

To fully protect your computer during start up, you must configure Boot Time Protection.

Configure Boot Time Protection

1. Open your Norton device security product.

   If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

2. In the Norton product main window, click Settings.

3. In the Settings window, click Antivirus.

4. On the Automatic Protection tab, in the Boot Time Protection row, click on one of the settings. Your options are:

   • Aggressive: provides the highest level of security when you start your computer.

   • Normal: provides normal security when you start your computer.

   • Off: Boot Time Protection does not run when you start your computer.

5. Click Apply, and then click Close.
