FAQ: End of Support for Norton Safe Web App on Safari

What is changing in the app?

  • We are ending support for the Norton Safe Web app for Safari and the Norton Safe Web Safari extension, which are part of the same suite.

  • After the update, the Safari extension will no longer show site ratings or block phishing and malicious websites.

Which app and browser extension are affected?

  • This change applies to the Norton Safe Web app and the Norton Safe Web extension, which is part of the same for Safari.

  • This change applies only to Safari on Mac.

Will Norton Safe Web still work on other browsers?

Yes. Norton Safe Web will continue to be supported on:

  1. Google Chrome

  2. Microsoft Edge

  3. Mozilla Firefox

This change only affects Safari on Mac.

What happens after the latest update?

  • When you open the Norton Safe Web app or click on the Norton Safe Web extension icon in Safari, you will see an end-of-support message.

  • The extension will no longer provide active Norton Safe Web protection in Safari.

Is Safari still protected from phishing and malicious websites?

  • Yes, if you have Norton 360 installed with an active subscription.

  • Norton 360 includes web protection for Safari and helps protect you from phishing and malicious websites while you browse.

What should I do now?

  • Remove the Norton Safe Web App from your Mac. This will also remove the related Safari Norton Safe Web extension.

  • Make sure Norton 360 is installed, and your subscription is active.

What should I do if my Norton 360 subscription has expired?

  • Install Norton 360 on your Mac and sign in with an active subscription to continue receiving web protection in Safari.

Why is Norton ending support for Norton Safe Web on Safari?

  • Norton 360 already includes built-in phishing and web protection for Safari, which makes the older Norton Safe Web Plus Safari extension unnecessary.

  • In addition, Apple is moving Safari away from the older app extension model, which limits the long-term viability of the current Safari extension experience.

  • For the best protection on Safari, we recommend using Norton 360 with an active subscription.
