Message: "An update error occurred" on Mac

An intermittent problem with the LiveUpdate servers can cause this error. You can be assured that this problem is fixed quickly. Wait for 24 hours and then run LiveUpdate again.

If the problem persists, manually download and install the virus definitions and then run LiveUpdate in your Norton product.

STEP 1

Update the virus definitions

  1. Download the virus definitions for your Norton product manually.

The file nis6avdefinitions.pkg is automatically saved to the Downloads folder.

  2. Double-click the file that you downloaded.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the virus definitions.

STEP 2

Run LiveUpdate

  1. Start Norton.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton main window, click LiveUpdate.

  3. When the LiveUpdate finishes, exit all programs and restart your Mac.
