Download and install the Norton device security app on Mac

Introduction and prerequisites

Norton device security for Mac is a comprehensive security application designed to help block viruses, spyware, and other malicious threats. Additionally, it protects you and your data against dangerous fake websites, ransomware, and hackers while you are online.

To install the Norton device security app on Mac, you need macOS High Sierra 10.13.x or later. To know the version of the Mac operating system installed on your Mac, click the Apple menu icon  , then click About This Mac.

Step-by-step instructions

1. Sign in to your account.

2. Enter your username or email address.

3. Choose one of the following sign-in methods:

   • Sign in with a one-time passcode: Click Continue. In the Request on-time passcode window, select how you want to receive the code: either your registered email address or mobile number (if available), then click Continue > Enter the passcode and click Verify.

   • Sign in using your password: Click Use password. Enter your password and click Sign In.

   • Sign in with a third-party account: Click sign in with Google, Apple ID, or Microsoft (if already linked).

4. In the dashboard page, click Download.
   If you want to install a different subscribed app, go to My Subscriptions. In the My Subscriptions tab, select the Norton app with an active subscription and click Download or share.

5. In the Get Started page, click Download.

6. Before you install, we recommend that you click Norton License Agreement and read your app license agreement.

7. If you see an alert, click Allow.

8. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded to launch the Norton installer.

9. Double-click the Install Norton icon and click Open.

10. Click Install Norton.

11. In some cases, the Norton installer prompts you to join the Norton Community Watch, which collects information about potential security risks on your computer and sends it to Norton for analysis. Do any one of the following:

    • Click Join Now to enable the Norton Community Watch on your Norton app.

    • Click Maybe Later to join the Norton Community Watch later.

12. When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password and click Install Helper. This is usually your username and password to log in to your Mac.

13. When the System Extension Blocked notification appears, click OK.

14. Click Close.

15. Click Move to Bin.

Norton device security is now installed on your Mac. To complete the initial setup, follow the on-screen instructions to allow permissions for your Norton app. For detailed instructions, refer to Allow all permissions for your Norton product on macOS.

The Norton 360 app activation reduces software piracy and ensures that you use authentic Norton software. You must activate your Norton app to use all the Norton features and keep your device protected.

To activate your Norton app:

1. Open your Norton device security app.

2. On the left pane, at the bottom, click Account.

3. Click Sign in, enter the credentials for the account that contains your valid Norton device security subscription, then click Continue.

Norton device security is now activated on your Mac.
