End-of-Life announcement for Norton Core router and Norton Core Security Plus subscription

With NortonLifeLock solutions, we strive to bring industry-leading, valuable and relevant security to help protect your devices and personal information. Occasionally, we reassess our portfolio of security solutions and features to ensure that they meet these criteria.

As a result of this portfolio assessment, we have decided to discontinue Norton Core. Starting April 15, 2022, your Norton Core router and Norton Core Security Plus subscription will be discontinued and will not be supported.

Why is Norton Core and Norton Core Security Plus being discontinued?

Thank you for being a valued Norton Core customer. At NortonLifeLock, we have been working hard to expand our Cyber Safety platforms to provide comprehensive security, privacy, and identity protection to our customers. We remain focused on providing Cyber Safety through our digital solutions while pivoting away from hardware solutions such as routers, for now. As a result, we are retiring both the Norton Core router and the companion Norton Core Security Plus subscription on April 15, 2022.

What does it mean for the current Norton Core customers?

Your Norton Core no longer functions as a router after April 15, 2022; your subscription renewal will be automatically turned off and any device protection or cloud storage you've used as part of your Norton Core Security Plus subscription will no longer be supported.

Will my Norton Core router still protect my devices after April 15, 2022?

Your Norton Core no longer functions as a router from this date, and you may need an alternative router such as the one provided by your Internet service provider to maintain your home Internet connection. We understand this may be disappointing news, and we’re following up on our previous communication and providing a special router replacement offer for the eligible Norton Core customers - a $200 Best Buy® Gift Card from us to use on any router on the Best Buy® online store. To opt-in for this gift card, please follow the opt-in instructions in the email we sent to the eligible customers.

Are there any alternative routers I can use?

You may need an alternative router such as the one provided by your Internet service provider to maintain your home Internet connection. We understand this may be disappointing news, and we’re following up on our previous communication and providing a special router replacement offer for the eligible Norton Core customers - a $200 Best Buy® Gift Card from us to use on any router on the Best Buy® online store. To opt-in for this gift card, please follow the opt-in instructions in the email we sent to the eligible customers.

Will my Norton Core Security Plus subscription still protect my devices after April 15th, 2022?

Your Norton Core Security Plus subscription will be discontinued and the protection on your devices will not be renewed.

What happens to the files I've stored using the 25GB of cloud backup storage?

The backup files stored on the cloud storage will remain available for you as long as you accept the Norton 360 Platinum offer or install any other Norton security product which includes our online storage backup feature. The backup files will remain available for 60 days after your Norton Core Security Plus expires in case you decide to activate the online backup later.

Can I still use the app to manage my Norton Core router after April 15, 2022?

After April 15, 2022, the Norton Core app will no longer be available and supported. In addition, the router will no longer function as a router or security service.

How can I reset and wipe all the data previously associated with the router?

Factory reset will reset the router to the factory settings and delete all the user data. Instructions are available here.

What features will Norton Core router have after April 15th, 2022?

After April 15, 2022, Norton Core router will no longer function as a router or security service.

Will NortonLifeLock release a tool for unlocking Norton Core router for repurposing with an open firmware?

NortonLifeLock is focused providing Cyber Safety through our digital solutions while pivoting away from hardware solutions such as routers, for now. The company has made the decision not to dedicate the additional significant engineering resources necessary to unlock the Norton Core router or develop firmware that would allow the Norton Core to continue to function as a router.
