Firewall settings in your Norton product check your computer's Internet connection to protect it from unwanted communication activities and Internet intrusions.
The following table describes the tabs that are available in the Firewall settings window.
General Settings |
Lets you activate the general firewall features and customize the ports that your computer uses to access webpages. You can control how firewall must handle the uncommon protocols and the network traffic to and from your computer. According to the general settings, firewall allows or blocks the incoming or the outgoing connection attempts and the sharing of resources with your computer. You can also use the general settings to let firewall control connection attempts to or from the blocked and the inactive ports in your computer. |
Program Control |
Lets you control Internet access for the programs that are on your computer. You can use the Firewall settings to create and modify rules for programs. |
Traffic Rules |
Lets you determine how the firewall handles incoming and outgoing network connections of various kinds You can use the Firewall settings to create and modify the Traffic rules. |
Intrusion and Browser Protection |
Lets you set firewall to prevent intrusion attempts and protect your browser from attacks by malicious websites. Intrusion Prevention scans all the network traffic to and from your computer. Browser Protection checks for browser vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer 7.0 or later and Firefox 10.0 or later. You must turn on the Browser Protection option to enable this feature. Download Intelligence protects your computer against any unsafe file that you download. This feature supports only downloads using the HTTP protocol and Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox browser. |
Advanced Program Control |
Lets you activate the advanced protection features of Smart Firewall. Automatic Program Control automatically configures Internet access settings for the web-enabled programs that are run for the first time. |
