Scanning disks, files and folders, and programs manually in Norton Security for Mac

Scan your Mac with Norton Security

  1. On the Apple menu bar, click the Norton icon, and select Norton Security.

  2. In the Norton Security main window, click Scans.

  3. In the left pane of Scans window, select one of the following:

    • Quick Scan: To scan commonly infected areas of your Mac, click Start a Quick Scan.

    • Full Scan: To perform a complete scan on your Mac for threats, click Start a Full Scan.

    • File Scan: If you want to scan a specific file or folder, drag and drop the item to the File icon.

      • You can also manually select the files or folders instead of drag and drop. In the File Scan pane, click Select a file. Select the files or folders to be scanned, and then click Scan.

If you want to select hidden files or folders in the scan, you need to check the box Show hidden files.

      • To scan the Startup Disk, or All User Folders, or the Entire System at the same time each week, click Schedule a Scan. In the Scheduled Scans dialog box, select the day and time, area to perform a scan, and then click Save.

  4. Norton Security scans the specified files and quarantines any infected files that cannot be repaired.
