Restoring the Windows Index status

This document provides information on restoring the Windows Index status.

STEP 1

Verify and enable the Windows Service

    You must be logged on to Windows as an Administrator.

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text and then press Enter.

    services.msc

  3. In the Services window, in the Services (Local) pane, scroll down to Windows Search.

    On Windows XP: Scroll down to Windows Search.

  4. Verify if the Startup Type is Automatic and if the Status is blank, on the top-left corner of the pane, click Start the service.

  5. Check if the Status is changed to Started or Running.

    If Windows Indexing is not restored, go to Step 2.

STEP 2

Rebuild the Windows Index

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text and then press Enter.

    control

  3. Click Indexing Options.

  4. In the Indexing Options window, click Advanced.

  5. In the Advanced Options window, under Troubleshooting, click Rebuild and click OK.

  6. In the Rebuild Index dialog box, click OK.
