Restoring your files to another computer using Norton Online Backup

You can restore specific files from a backup set or a complete backup set created using Norton Online Backup to any other computer that has the Norton Online Backup client installed.

To restore your files from a backup set to a new computer, you need to add that computer to your Norton Online Backup account first. Download and install the Norton Online Backup client and register that computer to your Norton Online Backup account. After you register the computer, you can restore your files to it.

If you have already added your new computer to your Norton Online Backup account, skip to Step 2 to restore your files to another computer.

STEP 1

Add new computer to Norton Online Backup

  1. From the new computer that you want to restore you backups to, sign in to the Norton Online Backup website using your email address and password.

  2. Next to My Devices, click Add Computer.

  3. Check I have read and agree the terms of Service and then click Start Download.

    Save the file to your desktop.

  4. When the download finishes, do one of the following:

    • For Windows, double-click the NortonOnlineBackup.exe file.

    • For Mac, double-click the NortonOnlineBackup.pkg file that you downloaded.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

    When the installation finishes, Norton Online Backup registration page opens in your browser window.

  6. In the browser window, click Continue.

  7. If you see a prompt to sign in, type your email address and password and then click Sign In.

  8. Click Done.

    Your new computer is now added to your Norton Online Backup account.

STEP 2

Restore your backup set

  1. Sign in to the Norton Online Backup website using your email address and password.

  2. From the list of backup sets, next to the backup set that you want to restore, click File Actions, and then click Restore Files.

  3. Under Restore to Other, from the drop-down list of computers, select the new computer where you want to restore the backup set to.

  4. Under Restore Files, do one of the following:

    • To restore a complete backup set, select Restore All Files.

    • To restore specific files from the backup set, select Select Files to Restore.

      Search or browse through the backed-up folders to select the files to restore.

  5. Click Restore Files.

  6. Click OK.

    Wait for the restore to complete. The files are restored to the desktop in a folder titled Restored Files.
