Upgrade the Norton Online Backup to the latest version on Mac OS X

Norton Online Backup version 2.2 or later automatically upgrades to the latest version available.

If you have Norton Online Backup 2.1 for Mac and earlier versions installed, you need to manually download and install the latest Norton Online Backup on your Mac. Follow the steps in the following section to install the latest version of Norton Online Backup.

To check the version of Norton Online Backup installed, on the menu bar, click the Norton Online Backup QuickMenu icon, and click About Norton Online Backup.

Download and Install Norton Online Backup

  1. Go to the Norton Online Backup downloads webpage.

  2. Check the I have read and agree with the Terms of Service box, and click Start Download.

  3. Once the file is downloaded, double-click the file to begin the installation.

    The file NortonOnlineBackup.pkg is automatically saved to the Downloads folder.

    If you see the message "NortonOnlineBackup.pkg" can't be opened because it was not downloaded from the Mac App Store., you need to manually update the Gatekeeper settings . For more information, read the section Change Gatekeeper settings on Mac at the bottom of this page.

  4. Click Continue.

  5. Click Install.

  6. When you see a prompt, type your Administrator account name and password, and then click Install Software.

  7. In the Installation Successful window, click Close.

Change Gatekeeper settings on Mac

  1. On the menu bar, click the Apple icon and select System Preferences.

  2. In the "System Preferences" window, under Personal, click Security & Privacy.

  3. If you cannot change the settings, on the bottom-left corner, click the Lock icon.

    In the dialog box that appears, type your Administrator account name and password, and then click Unlock.

  4. In the General tab, under "Allow applications downloaded from:", select Mac App Store and identified developers.

  5. Close the window, and reinstall Norton Online Backup.
