System Restore is turned off and restore points are deleted when running 1-Click Optimization in Norton Utilities 16.0 on Windows XP

STEP 1

Turn on System Restore

  1. To open the Run dialog box, press the Windows + R keys.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter:

    sysdm.cpl

  3. In the System Properties window, click System Restore.

  4. Uncheck Turn off System Restore.

  5. Click Apply and then click OK.

If you want to retain your System Restore points and continue to use any other performance profile such as "Balanced" or "Best Performance", then skip to Step 3.

STEP 2

Customize Windows Optimization

  1. On the Windows Desktop, double-click the Norton Utilities 16 icon.

  2. In the main product window, under Norton Utilities, click Performance.

  3. In the right-hand pane, under Select your action, click Optimize Windows.

  4. Select your Performance Profile as Best Appearance.

    If you cannot select a performance profile, next to Optimize Windows, move the slider to set it as Performance Profiles are enabled

  5. Click Apply.

STEP 3

Change 1-Click Optimization settings

  1. On the Windows Desktop, double-click the Norton Utilities 16 icon.

  2. In the main product window, under Norton Utilities, click Settings.

  3. Under General Settings, move the slider towards left to disable Windows Optimizations.

  4. Click Save.

STEP 4

Change System Restore service settings

  1. To open the Run dialog box, press the Windows + R keys.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    services.msc

  3. In the list of services, right-click System Restore Service and select Properties.

  4. In the window that appears, ensure that Startup type is set to Automatic and Service Status is set to Started.

  5. Click Apply.

  6. Restart your computer.
