My recently used application icons are removed from Windows Start menu after I run Windows Optimization in Norton Utilities

Running Windows Optimization in Norton Utilities 16.0 or earlier removes all the recently used application icons from the Start menu. If you do not want to run Windows Optimization, you can Disable Windows Optimization.

If you want to run Windows Optimization but do not want the recently used application icons to be removed, Update the Windows Registry to exclude recently used programs list.

Disable Windows Optimization

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Performance tab, click Optimize Windows.

  3. Next to Optimize Windows, make sure that the status shows Performance Profiles are disabled.

  4. On the Settings tab, make sure that Windows Optimizations is turned off.

  5. Click Save.

Update the Windows Registry

  4. In the File name box, type a name for the backup, such as Registry_BackupIdate.

  5. Select a location to save the Registration Entries (.reg) file, and click Save.

Keep the backup file for a week or so, until you are sure that the changes that you made have not caused any problems.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

  7. Locate and right-click the NoInstrumentation key, and click Delete.
