What happens during the defragmenting analysis?

The analysis provides data about the overall files count, fragmentation value (overall and fragments per file), and the space that is consumed by fragmented data.

It also provides an optimization value which is based on the fragmentation value combined with the file's placement value. For example, a fragmented file placed in a good location has a higher optimization value than a fragmented file placed in a poor location.


  • For your primary volume, if your optimization value after analysis is low, then we recommend that you perform Deep Defragmentation.

  • For volumes used for storage and backup, you may prefer to perform Quick Defragmentation as these volumes do not have significant impact on performance, and Quick Defragmentation runs faster. For every fragmented volumes, several consecutive Quick defrag tasks should be performed for best results.
