How do I clean the Windows Registry?

You can use the Clean Your Registry option in the Performance tab to clean the Windows registry.

To clean the Windows Registry

  1. In the Norton Utilities main window, select the Performance tab.

  2. In the Performance Home window, under Select your action, click Clean Your Registry.

  3. In the Clean Your Registry window, select the type of scan to run.

    Your options are:

    • Complete Registry Scan: Lets you perform deep and comprehensive scan of the Windows registry. A Complete Registry Scan searches your Windows registry for invalid entries in all sections of the registry.

    • Custom Registry Scan: Lets you perform a custom scan and lets you select the sections of the registry to include in the scan. If choosing a custom scan, select areas of the registry to be cleaned from the list displayed.

  4. Click Start Scan to begin scanning your system for registry issues. During a scan, Norton Utilities searches your Windows registry for invalid entries. As scanning proceeds, the progress bar indicates the progress of the scan and the problems that are found under each scan category.

You can stop the scan at any point by clicking the red Stop icon.

  5. At the end of the scan, the scan results are displayed. From this screen, you can safely repair the invalid entries to improve your system's performance stability.

Norton Utilities automatically creates registry backups each time you repair problems, so it is easy to restore backups if you need to do so at a later point in time.
