My computer stops responding when I install Norton Utilities 16.0

This problem can occur due to the Generic Windows 8 driver conflict with Norton Utilities. If you use AMD chipset, download and install the latest chipset drivers.

STEP 1

Verify the chipset drivers

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    devmgmt.msc

  3. In the Device Manager window, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

  4. Under the list of controllers, if Standard SATA AHCI Controller is displayed, follow Step 2.

STEP 2

Download and install AMD chipset drivers

  1. Download the latest versoin of AMD Chipset Drivers.

    Save the file on to your desktop.

  2. Double-click the file that you downloaded to start the installation of AMD chipset drivers.

  3. Follow on-screen instructions.

  4. When the installation finishes, restart your computer.

STEP 3

Confirm installation of AMD chipset drivers

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    devmgmt.msc

  3. In the Device Manager window, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

  4. Under the list of controllers, AMD SATA Controller is displayed.
