Norton Utilities 16.0 shows the status as "System Health is Low"

System Health status in Norton Utilities 16.0 is shown as Low if you do not perform the recommended tasks on a regular basis. These recommended tasks are displayed on the Norton Utilities Dashboard under "Next steps required to achieve good System Health".

To obtain the System Health High status, do the following:

STEP 1

Run Clean Your Registry

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Performance tab, click Clean Your Registry.

  3. Click Start Scan.

    Norton Utilities scans the Windows Registry for problems.

  4. When the scan finishes, click Repair.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. Repeat lines 1 through 5 to make sure that all the problems are fixed.

STEP 2

Add the registry key to Ignore list

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Performance tab, click Clean Your Registry.

  3. Click Start Scan.

    Norton Utilities scans the Windows Registry for problems.

  4. In the Scan Results window, right-click the registry entry which is found repeatedly in registry scan, and then click Add value to ignore list.

  5. Right-click the registry entry again, and then click Add subkey to ignore list.

  6. Repeat lines 4 and 5 for all the registry entries that are found repeatedly in the Registry Scan and which are not repaired.

  7. Click Repair.

  8. Click Continue.

STEP 3

Run a Privacy Scan and Clean

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Privacy tab, click Clear Your Windows History.

  3. In the left pane, click Windows.

  4. Under Clean Windows Settings, click Document History, and then click Save Choices.

  5. Click Clean All.

    By default, this task cleans Windows, Internet browsers, and third party application plug-ins of historical information that is stored in these locations.

  6. When Norton Utilities finishes cleaning the disk, click Continue.

STEP 4

Run Repair Drives

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Recovery tab, click Repair Drives.

  3. Select the drive that you want to repair.

  4. Under Select Drive Operation, select Repair Drives.

  5. Check the Perform on Reboot check box.

  6. Click Start.

    A message is displayed saying that the Disk will be repaired on restart.

  7. Exit all the programs and restart your computer.

    If you want to perform a Defragment Disk Scan together on restart, complete Step 4 and then restart the computer.

STEP 5

Run Defragment Disks

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Performance tab, click Defragment Disks.

  3. Select the drive that you want to repair.

  4. Under Actions, click Deep Defragmentation, and check the Perform on Reboot check box.

  5. Click Start.

  6. Exit all the programs, and restart your computer.

    If you have not restarted your computer after Repair drives task, both Repair Drives and Defragment Disks tasks run after the restart. These tasks may take few hours to complete. Cancelling these tasks may affect the System Health status.

STEP 6

Run Compact Your Registry

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Performance tab, click Compact Your Registry.

  3. Check the Create System Restore Point check box.

  4. Click Start.

  5. Wait for the Registry Analysis to complete.

  6. Click Apply to accept the changes.

  7. When you see the prompt to restart the computer, click Yes.

STEP 7

Run Boot time Optimization

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the Performance tab, click Defragment Disks.

  3. Under Action, select Boot time Optimization.

  4. Click Start.

  5. When the optimization is complete, click Continue.

STEP 8

Run Bleach Disks

  1. Start Norton Utilities

  2. On the Privacy tab, click Bleach Disks.

  3. Click the Bleach Free Disk Space status indicator to turn it green.

  4. Select the drives that you want to bleach.

  5. Click Save Choices.

  6. Click Clean Disks.

    During the bleaching process, the cleaned data is rendered unrecoverable using standard file recovery methods. This function also renders the deleted data remnants that occupy free drive space unrecoverable using the standard file recovery methods.
