LiveUpdate fails to install some updates and clicking More Information does not show any details about the exact error

This error can appear due to a temporary problem with the LiveUpdate servers. To check if the issue you are experiencing is related to a known system problem or outage, visit Norton Services Status page.

You can be assured that this problem will be fixed quickly. Please wait for 24 hours and then run LiveUpdate again. In the mean time, check your virus definitions date and if it is out-of-date, update it using Intelligent Updater.

These steps are for the current version of the Norton products. If you have an older version or if you do not know your product version, go to Norton Update Center.

STEP 1

Check your Virus Definitions date

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. In the main window, Under You Are Protected, check for the date next to Protection Updates.

  3. Depending on your situation, do one of the following:

    • If the time is less than one day, then wait for 24 hours and then run LiveUpdate again.

    • If the time is more than one day, go to Step 2 to update your virus definitions using Intelligent Updater.

STEP 2

Update your virus definitions using Intelligent Updater

  1. Go to the Intelligent Updater downloads page.

  2. To choose the correct definition set, you need to know the name and version of your Norton product and the version of Windows.

  3. Depending on your version of Windows and Norton product, download the appropriate definition set.

    Windows 64-bit platform

    22.7 and 22.8

  4. Save the file to the Windows desktop.

  5. On the desktop, double-click the file that you downloaded.

  6. In the Symantec Intelligent Updater window, click Yes to continue.

  7. When Intelligent Updater finishes updating the definitions, click OK.

STEP 3

Download and run Norton Power Eraser - Unwanted Application scan

  1. Download Norton Power Eraser.

  2. Click Save.

  3. Select the location as Desktop, and then click Save.

  4. To run Norton Power Eraser, double click the NPE.exe file.

    If the User Account Control window prompts, click Yes or Continue.

  5. Read the license agreement, and click Accept.

  6. In the Norton Power Eraser window, click the Unwanted Application Scan icon.

    When Norton Power Eraser completes the scan, the results are displayed in the Unwanted Apps Scan Complete window.

  7. In the Unwanted Apps Scan Complete window, next to the unwanted application or toolbar, click Uninstall.

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  9. When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.
