Error: "Setup has detected that a previous install or uninstall has been completed but requires a restart..." when I install Norton Family

This error appears due to a file in the Windows Temp folder that needs to be deleted. In most cases, Windows deletes the file when the computer is restarted. If you see this error message even after you restart the computer, go to Step 2.

STEP 1

Restart your computer

  1. Exit all the programs.

  2. Restart your computer.

    After you restart the computer, install Norton Family. If you still see the error, go to Step 2.

STEP 2

Delete temporary files

  1. Exit all the programs.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. In the Run dialog box, type the following text:

    %temp%

  4. Click OK.

    The current user's Temp folder opens in Windows Explorer.

  5. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

  6. Press Delete.

  7. If you see a prompt to confirm, click Yes.

    After you complete deleting the Windows temporary files, reinstall the Norton Family.
